Built almost entirely from components available in 1957, this car was constructed sometime before 1991. Truly an American Special , it is comprised of a heavily reinforced 1957 MGA frame, 283 c.i. Chevy engine with triple Stromburg downdraft carburetors which is set well back into the chassis, and a very attractive Devin-built fiberglass body. The exact period which these components were mated together is unknown. It will make a very interesting and exciting Sunday driver or vintage tour car, and will likely be accepted into most events in this configuration.

This car was owned by notable collector Harry Mathews and kept in the Mathews collection for some 12 years. As part of the collection the car was comprehensively restored and reworked. This work included rebuilding the throaty 283 Chevy, restoring, repainting, and remounting the Devin body, and reinforcing the MGA chassis. A late model, high flow aluminum radiator was installed, along with a Tilton pedal and master cylinder assembly. 15×6 aluminum Borrani wire wheels were sourced and 215/60R15 Yokohama tires fitted.

The interior is configured in a simple fashion, and allows plenty of room for large drivers. SW amp, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges are fitted, along with an original and very rare Corvette fuel injection tachometer.

Cosmetically, the car is outstanding, having seen very little use since the restoration. The sleek and attractive body is set of by the side pipes and Ferrari Borrani knock-off wire wheels, and even when not in use, the car is a pleasure to look at.

Mechanically, the car drives well. It is well sorted, and very powerful, but prospective buyers looking to go vintage racing should expect to further develop the suspension and chassis. This car should be eligible for road use in all 50 States.
