1965 Merlyn Mk6A Sports Racer
s/n 85RS
White with Gold and Black Racing Stripe

This car was one of the last Mk6A’s to be built by Colchester Race Development. Many of the Mk6A versions were fitted with the 1100cc engine and a few with 1300cc engines. According to sparse records, it is estimated that four of the later Mk6A’s were delivered with the 1600cc Lotus twin cam engine. Because of the frame configuration, we believe s/n 85RS was originally equipped from the factory with the larger Lotus twin cam engine. S/n 85RS was raced extensively from new until the mid 1970s in the Pacific Northwest. In the early 1980’s it was restored, and put back on the track in the San Francisco area and at vintage events up and down the West Coast. It has been a participant at numerous Monterey Historics, Wine Country Classic, NW Historic and Portland Historic races. The Merlyn appeared regularly at the Wine Country Classic and was accepted every time it was entered in the Monterey Historics. S/n 85RS was the winner of the Choppard award at the 1992 Monterey Historics. A comprehensive mechanical restoration was finished in 2004 when the current owner purchased the car. The car was further developed by the current owner and competed in select West Coast races finishing with or in front of most of the Lotus 23Bs. This car has a Shlossnagel built twin cam developing 194.7 reliable horsepower. It is truly a \”Turn Key\” sport racer and is being sold by an owner known for well-prepared racecars. Spares include new front and rear wishbones, brake pads and rotors, Jigs for suspension, wishbones, misc gaskets, cross brace and headers for push rod, various sway bars with pillow blocks. An excellent and cost-effective alternative to a Lotus 23 at a fraction of the price.
