Early 911s embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of the same vintage, but are also wholly evocative of a different era. There is a wholeness, cohesiveness, agility, and communicativeness that is only evident when they are driven, and it is no surprise that they have a fanatical following. For many years, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples and unmoldifficult today. All early 911’s have appreciated tremendously in recent years, with good solid cars seeing especially significant increases in value. The late cars (1972 and 1973), which are fitted with 2.4 liter engines, are very desirable, and are generally regarded to be the ultimate development of the original ‘long hood’ 911. The 911S was the top of the 911 range (other than the RS) featuring the most sporting equipment and the most powerful engine.

This particular car is a matching numbers US car that has been restored in its original color of Gemini Blue. The Certificate of Authenticity confirms the original color, that the car was delivered new with sunroof, and that it retains its original engine and transmission. It has been recently serviced to include rebuilt injection pump, tuning, and suspension freshening, with invoices on hand to substantiate the work. The car comes with tools, Certificate of Authenticity, and reproduction German owner’s manual.

The car makes a strong cosmetic impression with a fresh appearance. The panels are straight although their fit is not up to show standards on the deck lids and right door. The left door fits well. The paintwork is glossy and attractive and was done to good but not excellent standards. The metal trim appears to be unrestored and is excellent considering this with good luster, no significant deterioration to the finish, and some light scratches. The glass, lights and lenses are in great shape, and the car has H4 headlamps and European rear lenses. The rear grille is in exceptionally nice condition.

The interior is in excellent condition. The dashboard is in excellent original condition with no cracks or warping. The instruments are generally in very good unrestored condition, although the clock is showing its cosmetic age. The switches and controls are in very good original condition. The seats are excellent with evocative houndstooth inserts. They are genuine Recaro sport seats although they were not originally delivered in this car. The carpets are excellent, as are the door panels other than a small crack in the driver’s door cap. The headliner is black and is excellent.

The engine is extremely clean and appears to have had much recent cosmetic detailing and cadmium plating. The correct red fan shroud is in place. The trunk has also been thoroughly restored and is quite clean. The spare, trunk floor, and inner fenders have all been thoroughly restored. Plush velour carpets are in place. The undercarriage has been thoroughly restored and detailed, showing much recent work, from new oil lines to the oil cooler to new Konis. The car has SSI stainless steel heat exchangers.

The car runs and drives well. The engine pulls very strongly and the injection is properly set up, with injection pump freshly rebuilt by Pacific Fuel Injection, the highly regarded shop that specializes in Bosch mechanical injection. In addition to the rebuilt injection pump, the car was also tuned and had the suspension set up to include the fitment of new Koni shock absorbers. The clutch and gearbox work well, both operating as they should. The clutch has good bite and the transmission has effective synchromesh. The brakes, long a 911 strong point, work well, and the suspension is sporting thanks to the Konis and slightly lowered ride height.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a well-optioned matching numbers 911S. Indeed, it would be difficult to imagine a more desirable specification. Not only is this car a matching numbers 2.4 liter 911S, it is an original sunroof car finished in its rare and attractive color of Gemini Blue. It is an excellent driver, making a strong cosmetic impression and performing well across the board.
