Rolls-Royce’s enduring flagship model, the Corniche is an indulgent, opulent, and iconic motorcar that embodies all of their traditional values. Astronomically expensive when new, these cars were synonymous with a glamorous lifestyle and old world craftsmanship that lends them a timeless appeal. In production for over twenty years, the Corniche was continuously developed, with some of the most significant changes arriving with the 1987 introduction of the Corniche II. These new cars featured fuel injection, anti-lock braking system, aluminum radiator, oil cooler, modernized electronics, improved steering, and a restyled dashboard and seats. Alloy wheels became available as well, but were seldom fitted.

This particular car is a solid and attractive example fitted with rare chromed alloy wheels. It was repainted at some point in the past, and was serviced about 5000 miles ago, with light servicing since. The current owner has had the car for about 3 years, driving it occasionally, and reports that it has performed very well on long trips. It is fitted with rare cocktail cabinets to the doors, though the decanters and crystal are no longer with the car. It does have its manual and service booklet, in addition to tools and jack.

Cosmetically, the car is presentable with a repaint completed some years ago. The car has an attractive tan coachline, and all panels fit and operate as they should. The paint is glossy, though it is probably an enamel job, and shows a few blemishes in the form of a few small cracks, surface scratches, and two areas of shrinkage. The metal trim is straight, intact, and in good overall shape, with some light wear but no pitting. The windscreen has light pitting commensurate with mileage, and the lights are in excellent shape. The wheels are in very good condition, with no significant deterioration to the finish.

The interior is in good overall shape. The abundant amounts of leather upholstery are in great shape on the whole, though the top of the dashboard shows minor shrinkage. The front seats have been recovered and are very nice. The front seats are in very nice shape, with an attractive even patina, and the leather on the door panels, remainder of the dashboard, and center console is very nice. The instruments and switches are excellent, and the clock keeps good time. The wood is very good overall, though close inspection reveals some surface cracking in selected areas. The carpets are very nice overall, with light fading only. The top boot and top are in excellent shape.

The engine compartment is tidy and quite clean for a car that has seen regular use, while the trunk is in good shape, save for some discoloration to some of the carpeting. The jack and tool set are present, as is the spare.

The underside of this car is very nice. It is extremely solid and rust free, which is critically important on these cars since they can sometimes rust and are extremely expensive to properly put right. The driving experience is another strong point of this example. There are no dashboard indicator lights on, the car stops, goes, and corners in a composed, coherent, and dignified manner. The brakes are effective and do not pull.

This is a fine opportunity to acquire one of these elegant open four place touring cars. Four place open cars from any period are difficult to find, and the Corniche is certainly a quintessential car in which to enjoy the summer months with three of your full-sized friends. This particular car is an attractive and imminently usable car with tremendous presence that is sure to bring pleasure to its new owner.
