General Overview
When Henry Ford launched his fledgling car company well over 100 years ago, no one imagined that the simple and austere Model T would lead to one the most amazing performance cars of the century. Penned by Camilo Pardo, then head of the “Legends” studio, the GT40 concept car would arrive as a production car in 2005. In a matter of months, demand far exceeded supply as the public witnessed magazine test after test with the Ford GT besting many vastly more expensive contemporary exotics – all while being more reliable and far less costly to maintain. Just as Ford had so surprisingly done when they beat Ferrari on the racetrack, the unprecedented “one-two-three” Le Mans victory reminded everyone that Ford could once again build a supercar capable of delivering premier performance.
During the two-year production run from 2004-2005, Ford built 4,000 GTs. Anyone fortunate enough to purchase one new could choose from just four available options: a McIntosh sound system, Racing Stripes, Painted Brake Calipers, and Forged Alloy Wheels. The new design featured an aerodynamically advanced body, doors that cut into the roof for easy entrance and exit, a sweeping windshield, a visible mid-engine seen through the rear window, and intake/warm air extractors that significantly improved engine and brake cooling. The Ford GT also incorporated several innovative technologies including a superplastic thermo-formed frame, aluminum formed body panels, roll bonded floors (for increased rigidity and structural improvement), a lightweight magnesium center console, and a dizzying array of hyper-technology manufacturing processes leveraging state of the art composite materials and bonding technology employed in the lightweight frame. The resultant chassis was so resilient that it was capable of meeting modern safety requirements within a very short window of development time. Exceptional technology was not limited to the chassis alone as the mid-mounted 5.4-liter Ford Modular dual overhead cam V8 engine, equipped with a Twin-Screw Supercharger, was mated to a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission. The Ford GT delivered top numbers in every performance test with 0-60 3.3 second times, the quarter mile lapsing in 11.4 seconds, and a top speed over 205 mph.
Over the past 20 years since these cars debuted, they have become even more sought-after as collectors grow increasingly appreciative of the distinctive looks, analog driving properties, and celebrated racing heritage. Having grown significantly in value, enthusiasts continue to seek out preserved examples featuring excellent provenance and documented low mileage.
History of This Car
According to a copy of the Deluxe Marti report accompanying this car, this beautiful 2005 Ford GT was constructed June 1, 2005, and sold to the first owner June 6, 2005. The car was finished at the factory in Mark II black with Ebony Black leather interior and optioned with the McIntosh Audiophile w/CD player, BBS painted forged lightweight aluminum wheels, black brake calipers, stripe delete, and delivered with 3.36 final drive ratio, and 6-speed manual transmission. 238 examples were assembled at the factory in 2005 finished in this color, 55 of which were side stripe delete cars, fewer still as top stripe delete cars.
In July 2005, the car was exported to the first owner, a Ford dealership in Dubai, United Arab Emirates where it remained under their singular ownership until December 2023 when it was purchased by the current owner and imported to the US in preparation for sale. While in Dubai, the car was regularly serviced at the Ford dealership with noted mileage accrual in 2011 at 434 miles, and 2017 with 1,882 miles (both recorded under kilometer setting). Service invoice copies accompanying this car include:
2017 – new front door latch, new AC evaporator
2024 – with 2,359 miles cosmetic only repaint for the front bumper, rock chips corrected and repaint on left side running board, cosmetic only repaint for the rear vent grille, and cosmetic color refreshing for the leather seat surfaces.
2024 – with 2,359 miles (per door sticker) fluid service at Al Tayer Motors, licensed Ford dealership located in Dubai, UAE.
Current mileage is 2,376, approximately 50 of which were accumulated under current ownership.
General Condition
Today this low mile Ford GT presents in excellent condition finished in black with top and side stripe delete, alloy wheels, and McIntosh premium audio. The body panels are very nice overall including factory panel gaps, crisp latching, and smooth closure. The front air dam displays typical scuff marks on the underside edges, but otherwise the front facing surfaces remain quite nice. The glass panels retain factory correct brand etches and the windshield shows no significant chips or damage. The optional alloy wheels are in very good condition overall wearing a set of 2020 Michelin Pilot Sport 235/45R18 front and 295/40 R19 tires on the rear.
Stepping up to the driver’s door, the door latch is cleverly recessed under the body contour but easily unlatches the out-swinging door, revealing the distinctive roof panel opening as it separates from the body. The interior features are refined and very well maintained. The ebony leather and assorted interior materials are smooth, tidy, and reflective of original quality, with the seating surfaces cosmetically freshened in 2024. The seats have excellent seat stitching and uniform sheen to the leather surfaces, while the dashboard and console are beautifully finished with fine materials and careful craftsmanship. The six-speed manual transmission is a delightful engagement to any performance enthusiast who enjoys manual shifting and foot pedal clutch action. Under the hinged clamshell rear deck, the remarkably powerful yet reliable supercharged engine has been mechanically and cosmetically maintained and serviced as needed. The exposed suspension, mechanical components and detailed features are all in excellent condition throughout. Lifting the hinged front section reveals a clean and properly maintained storage area showing factory correct finishes and details.
The undercarriage of the car shows no notable damage or significant road marks. The factory correct reverse-dimpled aerodynamic chassis armor panels are also in place. The cast alloy suspension parts, and various exposed components show only minor evidence of use. There are no signs of structural compromise to the chassis or major suspension attachment points.
The car starts easily, setting off the supercharged dual overhead camshaft V8 engine that resonates perfectly at idle. The seats accommodate taller or longer legged drivers, the seating position offers expansive forward visibility over the beautifully arched front fenders, and rear visibility is surprisingly good. Acceleration is progressive and street-friendly without heavy steering at low speeds. Though comfortable in traffic, the Ford GT wakes up with a sonic roar when coaxed on the highway. Cornering and braking are on a par with some of the best track cars of this period, and yet, all this power and performance is equally at home cruising in modest traffic with the radio and air conditioning comforting the fortunate occupants.
Ready for immediate and enjoyable use, this Ford GT remains among one of the most sought-after modern collectible supercars and certainly one of the most iconic examples of premium performance. Steeped in GT40 heritage and racing traditions, this rare black stripe delete 2005 Ford GT is ready for the next chapter of enthusiast ownership.
