1936 Jaguar SS I 4-Place Tourer Ivory with Biscuit Leather Chassis No. 19019 Engine No. 251027 Body No. 4418 The rare SS I Tourer is a fine example of the sporting gentlemans pre-war motorcar. With sleek lines similar to the SS 100, and utilizing much of the same components, the SS I has become a sought after piece amongst Jaguar aficionados. Just over 100 SS Tourers were produced with the overhead valve engine. The design fully reflects Sir William Lyons' panche and flair. From the early Swallow Sidecar days, Lyons always provided excellent value with chic styling. This chassis is one of the late production cars sharing the rod operated braking system developed for the SS 100, and has the more advanced 2.5 liter overhead valve engine. The earlier cars were fitted with cable brakes and a side valve motor making them less user friendly in todays vintage tours and events. One of seven cars imported new in June 17th, 1936 to British Motors Ltd. New York, New York, this car has always remained in the US. From 1993 to 1995 this car was comprehensively restored. The chassis was completely disassembled, all necessary components repaired or replaced, and refinished in correct black centari. The motor was disassembled and rebuilt to factory specifications, as was the gearbox. The drive train, suspension, and braking systems were all refurbished. The wiring harness was fabricated to factory schematics in the original colors and materials. The body was stripped to bare metal, repaired, and refinished in Old English ivory. The interior is finished in biscuit Connally leather throughout and Wilton wool carpet. The side curtain enclosure is as original and both side curtains and hood are finished in tan Hartz cloth. Since the restoration was finished this car was the 1995 JCNA National Champion in its class, and finished 1st in 6 of 6 shows between 1995 and 1998. With the car is the full and compete tool set with jack and bag, and a letter from British Leyland Motor Corporation Limited outlining this as a true and correct SS Tourer. Stunning in appearance and practical to use, this SS-1 Tourer is sure to please.
