Description
Forty Europa GTs were built in the second series of production. Only 3 of those 40 were fitted with the lighter and more desirable alloy body. These cars were designed and built with competition events in mind, and while there is no confirmed competition history for chassis 0389GT, it is thought to have been used in hill climbs in Italy.
The series II cars have a slightly shorter chassis and more attractive body than the earlier cars, a more advanced coil front suspension, and a Colombo designed motor. The later Europas were a stepping stone to the highly successful 250 TDF. Significant improvements were made in the drivers ergonomics making the cars more drivable over long distances. The earlier Europas have a less advanced, less progressive front suspension and a taller, heavier Lampredi designed motor. Despite these advancements the aesthetic changes are very slight. The later cars are visually almost identical to the early ones.
This car is two tone dark blue with tan interior. Brian Hoyt at Perfect Reflections just finished the repaint, installation of new carpets, and re-dyeing the leather interior. Patrick Ottis completely rebuilt the motor approximately 1,000 miles ago, which is 100% 'On Song' at 220hp. Patrick also rebuilt the brakes at that time.
While this car is more expensive than a steel bodied series I in comparable condition, it is more usable because of the advancements made in the second series, and more collectable as one of only three alloy bodied cars.
Fantasy Junction imported the car from Germany and sold it to its current owner in February of 2000. While in Europe, the car was run in several Mille Miglias, an event which the car remains eligible for.
