Description
1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 CS bodied by Pinnin Farina
s/n AR1900CS 01651
Sliver with Blue Cloth Interior and Grey Carpets
One of just 150 1900 coupes bodied by Pinnin Farina for Alfa Romeo, this car retains special details such as its unique hood latch which very few car were built with. It is believed that this example was used as a show car by Alfa in 1954, but this is difficult to substantiate as the factory kept no serial number records of these cars. It is known that this car is one of very few with a floor mounted shift lever rather than the column mounted unit. It is also fitted with the desirable two down draft Solex carburetor with Abarth manifold setup, and Nardi wood wheel.
This is the perfect event car for the Italian car lover looking to diversify his collection. Well known in the Bay Area Classic car community, this car was purchased several years ago by Martin Swig, who founded the California Mille and other wonderful tour events which this car is eligible for. Martin commissioned a comprehensive restoration, both cosmetic and mechanical, and then used this car in the Mille Miglia. Shortly there after, Mr. Swig sold the car to Barry Russinoff, who sold it to Lyle Tanner, who also enjoyed the Mille Miglia with it. The current owner has participated with this car in the California Mille several times, and continues to remark that it is his `best driving` Alfa.
Conrad Stevenson has performed much of the restoration work, which included rebuilding the engine and transmission, clutch, rear end, suspension, and brakes. The interior was redone, the car repainted, and the chrome refinished. Approximately 10,000 miles have been logged on the car since the restoration. During this time Conrad freshened the top end of the motor.
Mechanically the car is very solid, having proven its self reliable and robust in event after event. The engine sounds good and pulls strong with no smoke. Second gear synchro is excellent, both hot and cold. There is minor chatter when disengaging the clutch.
Cosmetically, the car is best described as an older restoration with excellent interior. There are minor paint flaws associated with its use, but no major dings. The chrome, lenses, and window glass are all very good. The interior looks to be new, and the lovely cloth interior, headliner, and carpets show virtually no signs of use at all.
Perfect for the enthusiast who actually drives his cars, this one needs nothing and is ready to enjoy.
