1955 Jaguar D-Type Recreation by Tempero
s/n 724474, Engine no. D5526-7
British Racing Green with Dark Green Leather
The D-Type is one of Jaguar’s most famous and successful creations. A development of the Le Mans-winning C-type, the D-Type was also designed by aerodynamicist Malcom Sayer, and would go on to win many races, including Le Mans in 1955, 56, and 57. It continued to use the sophisticated twin cam XK inline-6, and disc brakes, but the major news was the inclusion of a unit type monocoque chassis, which allowed a smaller frontal area. The conversion of the engine to dry-sump lubrication lowered its center of gravity and allowed it to fit into this lower body. Today, the majority of D-Types have been long since been acquired by sophisticated collectors and are thus out of reach for most people, even collectors. Consequently, high quality reconfigurations carrying Jaguar chassis and and running gear, and alloy bodies of the original style and construction type, have garnered the interest of enthusiasts seeking the experience of owning and driving one of the world’s most important automobiles without the out-of-reach price tag or uneasiness associated with enjoying such a valuable car.
This particular car is a high quality recreation by Tempero of New Zealand, and is based on a Jaguar E-Type. Thus, the car has independent rear suspension and disc brakes all around. The body is hand formed all aluminum which replicates the style of the short nose cars. The engine is a 4.2 liter DOHC XK engine with triple Webers mated to a fully synchronized 5-speed transmission. The car has covered 1300 miles since its completion and thus shows very little wear.
Cosmetically, the car is very nice, with high quality paintwork over very straight properly fitting panels. There are almost no signs of wear or deterioration, just two small dimples on the front and rear clips. The car has polished alloy wheels of the correct style, as well as H4 headlamps.
The interior is purposeful and vintage in feel, other than a modern Momo steering wheel, though a lovely wood-rimmed steering wheel is also included with the car. The car has full Smiths instrumentation, as well as lovely dark green leather upholstery, all in excellent condition.
The engine compartment is spectacular, being fully detailed and containing much polished alloy. The radiator is an aluminum unit with electric fan, and the valve covers, exhaust heat shield, and radiator header tank are all polished. The car has a modern alternator for superior charging performance, while the triple Webers with velocity stacks are a very impressive sight indeed. The car also has a tool roll and matching spare wheel.
This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a stunning high performance Jaguar that replicates the feel of one of the all time great Jaguars, with a much higher level of performance. This car is extremely clean and is ready to enjoy, making it ideal for the performance minded Jaguar enthusiast looking for a freshly completed all-alloy recreation.
