Description

1955 Talbot-Lago T-26 Grand Sport s/n 111005 Dark Blue Metallic with Light Blue Roof and Gray Interior The Grand Sport was one of the last great French cars built. France`s infuriating post-war tax system and limited market for expensive cars meant that like Delahaye, Bugatti, and Delage, Talbot-Lago would not survive the 50`s. Just 15 Grand Sports were constructed, and with their sophisticated two camshaft 4.5 litre inline-6 motors, they were capable of a remarkable 125 mph when new. This motor, and much of the cars components are direct descendants from equipment used in Talbot-Lago`s Grand Prix racing efforts. Best described as an original car with some basic restoration work performed many years ago, this particular Grand Sport is also fitted with a Wilson pre-selector gearbox. Other technologically innovative features include the racing inspired finned brakes and control arms, as well as a triple Weber setup. Cosmetically, this car has various small paint chips and blemishes around the body, but is on the whole attractive. The chrome on the bumpers, wheels, and side vents is starting to deteriorate and could stand to be renewed, but the remainder of the chrome is very nice, including correct Marchal headlight trims. The headlights themselves are recent Hella H4s, no doubt a functional upgrade that seems to suggest that the car has been used recently. The glass is intact and in nice condition, and all lenses and lights are in as new condition. The interior is extremely nice. The seats are in great condition having no rips or tears, and the leather is very supple. The headliner is plush quilted wool and is in outstanding condition. The dash is complete, including all the rare knobs and buttons, and the Jaeger gauges are very good. The carpets are intact and generally nice. All trim is present and in great shape, except for a few missing segments on the steering wheel spokes. Some general history about the car is known, including that it spent many years in Colorado before being owned by several museums in Europe. Presently, the car has been recently tuned and runs well. It is eligible for many events, and would thus make an extremely unique and comfortable event car.
