Description
1957 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel Injected Roadster
VIN: E575106313
Venetian Red with Creme Coves Interior
The first year to be equipped by the factory with fuel injection, the 1957 Corvette Roadster is among the most iconic and collectable of all Corvette models. In total, just 1040 fuel injected Corvettes were built in 1957, and only 756 of those were rated 283hp.
This car is best described as a driver, with many of its original components. The current owner bought this car from an estate sale in Petaluma, California in November of 1999. At the time of his purchase, he commissioned Leo Dunn- GM service writer and solid axle Corvette expert, to inspect and verify the car`s correctness and originality. Mr. Dunn found the generator (#1102043, dated 7H13 August 13, 1957), engine (casting #3731548 C1357 March 13, 1957), fuel injection unit (7014800, serial #1059), distributor (#1110908 dated 7I14 September 14, 1957) and gearbox, (# 3845122, dated 9S03) all to be correct date codes for this chassis. Having inspected the car, Dunn saw no evidence that the car had ever suffered any significant damage.
This is a late 1957 Corvette, #6313 of the 6339 total built, and was made in the last two days of 1957 production. The previous owner rebuilt the motor and put almost no miles on it before selling it in 1999.
The interior is in good driver condition with moderate patina. An interior kit has been installed, but it is by no means new or show condition. There is light pitting on some areas of the interior chrome, and the dash paint has some rough areas. The interior is complete, no knobs or trim missing, and is presentable. The trunk is in very nice shape, and appears to have been left original.
The car has seen a basic repaint in its original color, Venetian red. It was not a meticulous, concourse job, but looks respectable at 10 feet away. Like the interior there is light pitting in several areas of the exterior chrome. The frontal facing area around the Corvette emblem shows some stress cracks, a common problem on very original 1957 Roadsters.
The engine compartment is moderately detailed confirming that the motor has recently been rebuilt. The inner finder wells, firewall, and radiator have been repainted in the correct semi-gloss black. The engine, while not completely detailed, is presentable and shows all the signs of having been rebuilt recently.
Mechanically the car is very sound. It sounds and runs strong with good power. The suspension is compliant, the brakes effective, and the transmission smooth.
Options fitted to this car include: stainless distributor shields, seatbelts, floor mats, town and country \"wonder bar\" radio, heater, 12 volt electronic system, door courtesy lights, and chrome spinner hubcaps. The car is sold with both the soft and hard tops.
Currently the car sits on period correct Firestone Deluxe Champion 3 inch whitewall tires. Records for work done by the current owner are included, as is both a removable hard top and easy to stow convertible top, and the original spare wheel and tire.
