1957 Ferrari 250 GT `Low Roof` Boano
s/n 0641 GT, engine no. 0641 GT
Black with Copper Roof and Tan Interior
In total, just eighty eight 250 Boanos were built between 1955 and 1957. This exquisitely restored matching numbers example, s/n 0641GT, was completed on Valentine`s Day of 1957 and delivered June 8th, 1957. This example is further distinguished from the Boano production line in that it is one of very few `Low Roof` examples built with a sleeker body profile. By virtue of its 1957 build date, this fantastic driving Ferrari is eligible for the Italian Miglia Mille, California Mille, Colorado Grand, Copper State Classic, and numerous other prestigious rally events.
This car was in California in the mid- 1970s, owned by Paul Griep of San Jose, California before being sold to internationally respected Ferrari restoration expert Brian Hoyt of Perfect Reflections. Mr. Hoyt commenced a comprehensive cosmetic restoration to include paint, chrome, upholstery, trunk, engine bay and underside. Much mechanical restorative work was performed by Patrick Ottis. This work included, among other things, completely rebuilding the top end of the engine and replacing the clutch. Originality and correctness were taken into account at each step of the process and all work was done to international show standards. The restoration was completed in late 2002, and Fantasy Junction had the privilege of selling this example to three of the four recent owners in 2003, 2005, and 2008.
It was with great enthusiasm that one of the pervious owners showed this example at the Cavallino Classic in 2004 where the car was awarded a platinum. Additional platinum level awards were achieved at local shows in the North Eastern, USA, along with `Best in Show`, and `People`s Choice` awards. At this time the car is believed to be in 97+ point condition when considering Ferrari National Concourse standards. This is a well known car within the Ferrari community, and was featured in an article in Forza magazine in October of 2005.
Cosmetically, s/n 0641 can be described as a show ready example ready to compete nationally. Virtually every aspect of the car is like-new, or perhaps even better. Great care has been taken to insure all components have period a correct finish and appearance right down to the factory stickers. The interior is trimmed is exceedingly high quality supple leather, with correct fabric headliner and correct wool carpets.
Not only does this car present and show well, it also supplies that fantastic visceral driving experience that only early 250 series Ferrari`s can produce. The engine, driveline, and correct reverse shift pattern transmission are all in excellent order. The brakes are effective, the suspension compliant, and the chassis taught. The choke has been intentionally disconnected for ease of use. Every other component and accessory is functioning as it was designed to.
Likely the very best Boano on the market today, s/n 0641GT boasts platinum show results from a brand-name restoration by Brian Hoyt and Patrick Ottis, who together achieved 100 points with a 275 GTB/4 at the 2008 Cavallino Classic. A welcome entrant for virtually every historic road rally, including the Miglia Mille, this example can be shown or driven with pride with the best of the best.
