1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

Red with Black Leather Interior
The Giulietta is the car that took Alfa Romeo from being a relatively small production company to being an economically viable and successful firm. Prior to that, they had produced large and expensive cars, and never in very large numbers. With the Giulietta, however, Alfa Romeo produced significant numbers of these charming and capable cars. Its success was due in part to its unique placement in the market. It was neither a large hugely expensive car, nor was it very small utility car (such as the Fiat 500). Instead, the Giulietta was affordable enough so that many could buy it, yet permitted a more glamorous and useful approach to motoring that really struck a chord with buyers on both sides of the Atlantic.
This particular car has been in the care of its current and previous California owner for approximately 15 years. The previous owner purchased the car in Los Angeles and had the car shipped to Corsmith Italian Automotive and Spokane, Washington, where the engine and transmission were rebuilt. Veloce intake components were also fitted including air filter housing, hoses, and Weber carburetors, all of which are difficult to find and valuable components. The head was decked to provide an increase in compression ratio, which provides a significant performance increase, as well as the use of a fuel additive in California where 91 octane is generally the highest available. Veloce motor mounts were also fitted to ensure clearance with the new intake setup. Since then, the car has been regularly enjoyed in events and tours and has proven to be a reliable event car with regular maintenance since, including redone brake system. Even more recently the entire underside was cosmetically restored, and a new exhaust system was fitted, among other minor mechanical works.
Cosmetically the car is an excellent driver level car, and provides a great driving experience. The body is straight and solid with very good quality paint, which shows a handful of very minor imperfections, but makes a strong overall impression. The chrome is generally very good with virtually no pitting and only light surface scratches, although the finish shows some imperfections in the cutout of the front bumper by the center grille. Some of the rubber seals show some age. The glass and light are excellent save for some hairline cracks in the tail light lenses. The wheels are excellent cast GTA-style alloys with Michelin XZX tires.
The interior is in excellent overall shape. The seats were redone in leather using the correct patterns and color scheme, including contrasting red piping. The car is fitted with a beautiful flat wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel. The door panels were also redone and are in good shape. The carpets are in good shape and the dashboard is very nice, with absolutely beautiful early style gauges. The chrome trim appears to be unrestored and is very good considering this but does show some patina. The switches and controls are in very good shape.
The engine compartment is tidy and shows obvious maintenance with polished Veloce airbox and valve cover. It is tidily presented and in terms of condition, it is at a very nice driver level. The trunk is correctly presented with Borrani spare steel wheel and rubber trunk mat which is in as new condition.
The undercarriage, which appears to have always been exceedingly solid, has received much recent detail works, including a complete new exhaust system from the collectors back, and makes an outstanding overall presentation.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a well-sorted driver level Giulietta Sprint with desirable Veloce upgrades. It runs and drives great and has proven to be a trustworthy car that has been enjoyed in numerous touring events by its current owner. Cosmetically, it is attractive and presentable, but not so nice as to discourage its use, while the performance upgrades are welcome and further enhance its appeal for event use. Additionally, Giuliettas are generally accepted to the restricted model year events such as the California Mille, and certainly would be accepted to the Colorado Grand, which has a 1960 manufacture cutoff date.
