Description

1959 Ferrari 250 PF Coupe Series I
s/n 1159GT, Engine no. 1159GT
Silver green with Blue Leather

Introduced in 1958, the 250GT Pinin Farina represented Ferrari`s increasing tendency towards production road cars, both to showcase the technology tested in racing, and to provide income to support racing. The cars were elegant, understated, and luxurious, and were available as both open and closed cars. Fitted with the venerable 3-litre V-12, the 250 GT is in many ways the quintessential classic Ferrari, and with generous space for both passengers and luggage, PF`s have always been excellent touring cars.

This particular example represents an excellent basis for full restoration, having laid dormant on the west coast of the United States for many years before being purchased on behalf of the current owner by Fantasy Junction. The car is exceedingly solid, and while all cosmetic and mechanical aspects of the car will require restoration, it is very complete, save for a battery and a few other very minor odds and ends.

The car retains its original matching numbers, inside plug engine, which turns over freely. This example has been updated with front disc brakes from a Series II PF Coupe. The balance of the major components such as the transmission, rear end, gauges, front and rear suspension, and rear brakes, are correct Ferrari production units, and appear to be original to the car. The paint, and interior upholstery are both most probably original. The car was last registered in January of 1978, and when parked, the odometer showed just 81,000 kms. The car does not currently start or run, and cannot be driven. It is sold “as-is”, as a non-running example for restoration.

Included with the car is a small box of extra parts, and the spare wheel and tire. Also included are notes from the previous long term owner confirming the car was never in a collision of any kind during his ownership, and discussing an engine rebuild performed in November of 1972 with the assistance of Piston Ring Supply, and machining company in Seattle, Washington. The owner at the time goes on to comment that “the car ran very well when started last”, in approximately 1987. Prior to him selling the car, he took the radiator out to have it re-soldered.

With the values of core Ferrari components sky-rocking, an outstanding basis for a full restoration such as s/n 1159GT becomes both a sought after find and a rational purchase.
