Black with Black Interior
This California black plate as been the subject of no expense spared complete rebuild and restoration. The car has been tastefully updated and modified without compromising the character and charm that comes with a Triumph.
This car was born from the dreams of the previous owners father, a classic California hot rod`er and weekend dry-lake racer from the late 30`s thru the 50`s. He owned a number of TR`s, claiming they would make the best California roadsters. Better even than the B Fords he`d drive down to the Mojave on weekends and run in two classes on the lakebed by removing the fenders between runs.
While the current owner`s father never got to build this particular car, he collected most of the parts, lots of stories, and the 59 TR chassis to be modified. The current owner started the restoration and rebuild process about six years ago. Since completion it`s been driven about 1,200 miles. It`s been shown twice receiving best of class both times and jurors choice once. He is selling the car because it`s designed as a runner and he simply can`t give it the driving time it deserves. The car has lots of low-end torque, chassis feed back and it`s as tight and responsive as you`ll find in a street TR. All the records of the reconstruction- photos & documents- are available to perspective buyers. Everything has been disassembled, restored or replaced, or modified.
The frame is perfectly straight, stiff, and with no signs of stress or damage. It`s been sand blasted, epoxy primed and coated with Matrix system three-part epoxy- black. The front suspension is all new TR4 with Revinton TR steering mods and adjustable camber kit. The rear is stock, but totally gone through. Anti-Sway bars have been fitted to the front and rear, with custom front mounts. Both the front discs and rear drums have been rebuilt.
The drive train has been completely rebuilt. Engine modifications include: 87mm piston & liner set; fast street cam; lead free head conversion; polished ports; balanced; performance headers; oil cooler; TR Works intake manifold; electronic ignition; Revington TR thin-belt and alternator conversion; and a gear reduction starter. Transmission is a TR4 unit with synchromesh first gear and electric overdrive. The rear end is stock, but gone through. An oversized radiator, (no crank hole) with electric fan, have been fitted. A custom 2`` exhaust system to match headers- with a throaty but not ear-shattering note has replaced the original unit. A new electrical wiring harness and related parts were installed.
The original TR 3A tub has been replaced with stiffer 3B tub. All original body panels were used except nose cone, which is a steel `58 small mouth. A new 3B gas tank, new hinges, and new locks were installed. The body was assembled and blocked and painted off the frame with Matrix System three-part epoxy, black. Every body seam, hinge, and joint has excellent fit and shuts better than it would have in 1959. The repaint is a show quality job, again better than work done at the factory.
The interior is all new leather including jump seat, dash, and door panels. New heat shield insulation and carpet have been installed. All the gauges have been cleaned and checked. The heater has been rebuilt. A new windshield, tonneau, top were sourced, and the side curtains restored.
The car sits on new 72 spoke 5`` rims with Yokohama AVS tires and new splined hubs. With the car comes an enormous file of records pertaining to the restoration, an original TR3 owner`s manual, a luggage rack, and side curtains. An absolute joy to drive and eligible for a growing number of classic car rallies, this Triumph provides a cost effective alternative to an Austin Healey, while still rekindling those fond memories of your youth.
