Introduced in 1960, the Series II 250GT Pinin Farina represented Ferrari`s increasing tendency towards production road cars, both to showcase the technology tested in racing, and to provide income to support racing. The cars were elegant, understated, and luxurious, and were available as both open and closed cars. Fitted with the venerable 3-litre V-12, the 250 GT is in many ways the quintessential classic Ferrari, and with generous space for both passengers and luggage, PF`s have always been excellent touring cars.

This particular car is a matching numbers example accompanied by a factory hard top. The car was restored to very high standards several years ago, and remains stunning. It is nicely mellowed and is an excellent example to use and enjoy on a regular basis or in touring events. The current owner has had it for about seven years or so, and spent much money on preparation and upkeep. He had an engine rebuild performed by John Bagioli at Forza Motors, and used the car on the California Mille. More recently, the car has had $10,446.40 in work by Randy Reid at Antique Auto Restorations. Included in this work was considerable electrical sorting, body adjustments and new seals, fuel tank restoration, new shock link and bushing, axle seals and bearing, some rechroming work, some paint touchup, carburetor adjustment, fixing leaks, and adjusting the valves.

The car is in excellent cosmetic condition, with excellent body condition, fit, and gaps. The paintwork was executed to very high standards and remains very nice, with a handful of small chips and other small blemishes. The chrome is very good to excellent. The rear bumper has just been rechromed, while the remainder of the chome has light pitting only. The glass and lights are excellent, as is the top. The headlamps and reversing lamp are correct Marchal items. The Borrani wire wheels are excellent and wear Michelin X tires. The car also has a hardtop, which has been restored and is in excellent condition.

The interior was redone to very high standards throughout. The leather upholstery is beautifully broken in, and the carpeting is excellent in terms of condition and installation. The dashboard and instruments are excellent as well. There is no pitting to the chrome trim, and the steering wheel is lovely throughout. The interior of the top was restored as well, and the top frame beautifully rechromed.

The engine compartment is nicely detailed and has numerous correct details, including yellow fuel lines, three-eared airbox keepers, brake booster sticker, and windscreen washer bag. It is very clean throughout following a rebuild in 2004. The trunk has also been restored and is excellent throughout. The spare is a matching Borrani with Dunlop tire.

This is an exceptionally fine driving example. In all respects, the car operates beautifully. The engine is well-tuned, sounds great, and has good oil pressure. The gearbox shifts well, and the overdrive works superbly, engaging and disengaging smoothly. The suspension and chassis are excellent, as are the brakes. In all respects, the car is an outstanding example to drive, and certainly one of the finest driving PF’s Fantasy Junction has encountered in recent memory.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a lovely example of this desirable 12-cylinder open Ferrari. Mechanically sorted, this example has had much work performed and drives and operates superbly. Cosmetically, it is extremely attractive, and only close inspection reveals imperfections. It could be casually shown, or would be an ideal event or touring car thanks to its excellent mechanical condition and driving experience.
