The ultimate development of the Jaguar’s legendary XK series, the XK150 represents significant advances and developments over the earlier cars. They remain one of the 1950s’ most iconic motor cars, and are known for their stunning styling and mechanical robustness. Compared to earlier cars, the XK150 has several technological advances over the 120 and 140 including power assisted disc brakes, and provided a bigger cockpit area which accommodates larger drivers more comfortably. As ever, the XK150 was available as a more elemental roadster, the more completely equipped Drophead, and as a fixed head coupe.

This particular example is an extremely rare example with 3.8 liter high compression engine and overdrive from the factory. Fewer than 200 examples were so equipped, and this example is matching numbers and has been restored. Since late 2007, over $34,000 has been spent to ensure that the car is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. This work has included much detail oriented fettling and adjustment to assure that the car is in excellent order. Most recently in February-April 2009, the car has seen a complete service including fluid changes as necessary, chassis lubrication, updated valve lifter guide hold downs, new water pump, rebuilt radiator, and replaced distributor seal. The body was selectively refinished and the gaps and trim adjusted and set at a cost of over $9000, and much other restorative work performed. A new top was also fitted at a cost of nearly $2000. The car has had a 12-volt electrical system conversion and countless new bits of trim and mechanical work performed. The owner was quite fastidious, leaving no item unaddressed, even ensuring that the cigarette lighter was replaced and operational.

Cosmetically, the car is very nice condition, with a very nice straight rust free body. The paintwork is very good, but close inspection reveals some minor imperfections. The chrome is excellent on the whole. The bumpers, light trim, and grille are excellent, while the windscreen surround and door handles show light pitting. The wheels are very nice, and the top is excellent. The windscreen has light pitting, and all lamps and other glass are excellent. The car is fitted with rare yellow French market Lucas fog lamps, and European amber lenses all round.

The interior is in superb order. The leather, carpets, and dashboard are all in excellent shape. The dash top and dashboard have been reupholstered in high quality leather, and the instruments and switches are in excellent shape. The carpets are high quality wool and are also excellent. The overall feel is extremely fresh like that of a recently restored car, and the quality of workmanship is very high.

The trunk has a similar feel, having been completely restored. The correct liner is in place and beneath the upholstery, the painted areas are excellent. The spare wire wheel and grease gun are still in place.

The engine compartment was beautifully restored as well, and remains very nice. The wiring, inner fenders, engine, ancillaries and hardware are all very clean and well-done. It is well-detailed, and even the glass windscreen washer fluid reservoir is in place still.

This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a very nice matching numbers high compression 3.8 liter overdrive XK150. This car has been fastidiously owned and sorted to a level that is very difficult and painstaking to achieve. It is very complete and ready to go, with framed heritage certificate, service records from the last several years, and tool roll with tools.
