Description

1961 Ferrari 250 GT Pinin Farina Cabriolet Series II s/n 2683 engine no. 2683 Dark Blue Metallic with Black Leather Interior Introduced in 1960, the Series II 250GT Pinin Farina represented Ferrari`s increasing tendency towards production road cars, both to showcase the technology tested in racing, and to provide income to support racing. The cars were elegant, understated, and luxurious, and were available as both open and closed cars. Fitted with the venerable 3-litre V-12, the 250 GT is in many ways the quintessential classic Ferrari, and the cabriolets, with their fully lined tops, generous space for both passengers and luggage, were and continue to be excellent touring cars. This particular car is a matching numbers example fitted with the very rare original and optional hard top. It was comprehensively restored in 1993 and 1994 by highly regarded marque specialists Bacchelli & Villa (Autosport) in Modena, Italy, and then owned by a gentleman in Monaco. Eventually, it was sold on to an American owner in 2004, who performed an extraordinarily comprehensive servicing, detailing, and freshening campaign at the cost of $54,548.44. The following work was performed: new clutch, resurface flywheel, new tires (including spare), new exhaust system, recore radiator, custom tonneau cover, adjust carburetors, minor service (hoses, belts, plugs, various seals, change oil and filter), upholstery repairs, trunk boards and spare tire hardware replaced, and restore steering wheel. A tremendous amount of other work, especially in the engine compartment, was also performed, and all of it was done with the end of returning the car to a more original configuration. All of the original finishes and decals were duplicated on the new parts, including: correct radiator cap, decals in engine compartment, correct knurled nuts for fuse panel, refinish fuse panel, correct battery cables, hood bump stops and gasketing, hood liner, battery, ignition coils, generator, horns and compressor, yellow fuel lines, brake reservoir and cap, throttle linkage, and washer bag. The gearbox and differential were also resealed, and the exhaust manifolds thermo coated and all exhaust hardware and gaskets replaced. Correct aluminum belly pans were also fabricated for the car, and finally, an impressive 67-hour detail was performed. Consequently, the car is in excellent condition. The high quality paintwork is on the whole excellent but shows some light aging and wear in the form of cracking, a few nicks, and some light scratches. The chrome is excellent throughout, with light pitting on the door handles and mirrors only. The chrome on the bumpers is excellent. The glass and lights are excellent as well, save for some delamination at the corners of the windscreen. The wheels are excellent as well. The interior is in similarly nice condition, with just the right amount of patina on the seats. The remainder of the interior shows extremely little wear and the upholstery on the doors, console, and dashboard are all excellent. The painted surfaces were renewed recently and are like new. The gauges, switches, and trim are very nice, and the carpets were superbly done. Having been recently refinished, the steering wheel is outstanding too. The engine compartment and trunk are both extremely clean, detailed, and highly correct. The attention to detail is especially evident in the engine compartment, where every component looks as it would have when the car was new, from the washer bag to all the accessory systems to the battery and washer bag. The car is also mechanically excellent, with a very fresh feel when driving. The engine is strong and smokes minimally, while the transmission works as it should, with good second gear synchromesh when warm. The suspension is tight and the car has a nice coherent feel to it. This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a superbly sorted example of this beautiful and timelessly elegant open Ferrari. With almost all classic open Ferraris costing well into the millions, this car is comparatively undervalued, which also makes it more usable. This car`s condition also makes it very usable since it is beautiful, but not so much so that the new owner would feel guilty about using it. Its level of mechanical fitness also lends to its usability because the fanatical attention that this car has received ensures that it should provide much trouble-free enjoyment for its new owner. Indeed, previous owners have used it on rallies, and the new owner could do the same with this attractive, attainable, and open Ferrari.
