Description

1962 Ferrari 250 GTE s/n 3177, e/n 3177 Black with Black Leather and Red Carpet This is an extremely correct and well maintained, early front engine 12 cylinder Ferrari. Previous owners include Rob de la Rive Box and Dick Merritt. With the car come extensive service documentation outlining; a complete top end rebuild including timing chains and distributors, complete transmission overhaul and clutch replacement, new stainless steel exhaust, restoration of much of the interior, complete brake system rebuilt including booster, and front end rebuild. The car is sold with the original owners manual and sales brochure, extra key fob, tool roll with some tools, jack, jack bag, photo documentation of restoration work, August 1962 Road and Track with the Ferrari GTE Road Test, and extra; bulbs, oil and fuel filters, and a plethora of other items which will be of assistance to the new owner. This car is fitted with extremely valuable and sought after Marchal headlights and driving lights inset in the grille mouth. It also has the more attractive one-piece, elongated tail lights. Cosmetically the car is extremely nice and looks to be perfect from ten feet away. The car was repainted many years ago in its original color and while the overall presentation of the paint is very good, small areas of cracking can be noticed around the base of the front and rear windows. Other small chips and wear marks, associated with normal use can be noticed when closely inspected. The exterior chrome, much of which has been re-plated, is excellent throughout, with no pitting or corrosion. The car is fitted with an original Italian license plate on the front, and sits on excellent, polished Borrani wire wheels. Much of the interior has been redone over the years. The console, front and rear seat, rear shelf, dash, and door panel leather are all in very good condition with no damage or major wear marks. The wood steering wheel has been beautifully refinished by Paul Craft. New, correct wool carpets have been installed. The rocker sills and door jams are both nicely detailed. The headliner looks to be original and is in excellent condition with no discoloration or sagging. The interior chrome is near perfect throughout. Currently the car needs nothing mechanically and is ready to enjoy. The car starts easily and shows no smoke when hot or cold. The carburetors are nicely synchronized and adjusted. With rebuild a top end, the engine sounds good and pulls strong with excellent oil pressure. The brakes stop the car effectively and evenly, having been completely rebuilt. The rebuilt transmission shifts smoothly with excellent second gear syncros and working overdrive. The new stainless steel exhaust retains the stock Ansa tips. The engine compartment is extremely detailed with all correct equipment down to the small details such as yellow plug wires and fuel lines, `three ear` air cleaner nuts, radiator overflow bag, and factory air horns. The underside of the car is clean, rust free, and shows no sign of previous damage. With books, tools, records, and much recent work completed, this is an ideal car for the true Ferrari enthusiast seeking to add an early V12 to their collection. Both Cavallino and Sports Car Market Letter show values for a 250 GTE in the $75,000 to $125,000 range, with a 31% appreciation last year.
