1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Recreation
s/n 3343, Engine no. 4703
Rosso Corsa with Blue Cloth Seats

The Ferrari GTO needs no introduction to automotive enthusiasts. Equally famous for its dominance in the international racing scene as for its astronomical eight figure values, the GTO is perhaps the ultimate classic Ferrari. Today they are among the world’s most historically significant and valuable cars. When new, they were highly successful in international motor racing, winning the world sports car championship in 1962, 1963, and 1964. Today, the majority of GTOs have been long since acquired by sophisticated collectors and are thus out of reach for most people, even Ferrari collectors. Consequently, high quality reconfigurations carrying Ferrari chassis and serial numbers, Ferrari engines, and alloy bodies of the original style and construction type, have garnered the interest of enthusiasts seeking the experience of owning and driving one of the world’s most important automobiles without the out-of-reach price tag or uneasiness associated with enjoying such a valuable car.

This particular car is an outstanding example, believed to have been constructed in the early 1980s by Favre, who is widely regarded as one of the best 250 GTO re-constructors. As an original GTO would be, this car is equipped with painted deep dish Borranis wire wheels, 6 Weber carburetors, Veglia gauges, aluminum outside fuel filler, plastic side and rear windows, Marshal head lights, and straight pipes. The dash is finished in correct black crackle paint. The body is fabricated from aluminum and accurately mounted on the Ferrari tube chassis. As with a GTO, the V12 Ferrari 250 engine has been dry-sumped, and power is fed through a 5 speed gearbox with correct finned case. Both the gas and oil tanks are riveted, per GTO specifications. It is fitted with watts linkage and sits on Dunlop racing tires.

The engine in this GTO Recreation has been built to 1962 GTO specs including; larger intake and exhaust valves, dry sump conversion, proper camshafts, and six Weber 38 DCN carburetors. This engine was completely rebuilt in 2007 by Wayne Obrey and Motion Products with few miles of use since rebuild. The dyno statistics from Motion Products reads as follows; horse power 314 @ 6950 rpms, torque 240 @ 5700 rpms. The dyno test was completed @ 750 ft above sea level. The comprehensive rebuild included all of the following parts and machining; new intake and exhaust valves, new valve springs and keepers, new valve guides, new valve adjusters, camshafts ground to GTO specs, new timing chain, cylinder bores honed, new Wossner 10:1 compression ratio pistons, connecting rods reconditioned, crank, rods and pistons balanced, and new main, rod and thrust bearings. The ignition distributors where rebuilt with advance curves matched. The clutch assembly and flywheel where replaced with new units. The drive shaft was balanced and radiator was flushed and pressure tested. The carburetors where rebuilt by Weber specialists Pierce Manifold.

Today the car displays good racing cosmetics, and is in impeccable mechanical order with a ride that is nothing short of exhilarating. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a very high caliber recreation of a true legend. Extremely accurate and capable, this car is a pleasure to drive and look at, and employs genuine Ferrari chassis and running gear. It has a nice even patina that befits its competition bent, and the level of mechanical sorting is unique. It is ideally suited to event use as an aggressive street machine or as a serious vintage racer.
