Description

1962 Mercedes Benz 220 SE Cabriolet VIN: 111.023.10-004498 Tobacco Brown with black Canvas to and Black Interior The well preserved 220 SE was sold new in San Jose, California. Now in the hands of the third owner, it represents an excellent opportunity as a daily driver, or as a collector`s piece after some minor cosmetic work. There is no rust apparent. The car has 76,656. It is likely this car was repainted in its original tobacco brown many years ago. The repaint was an extremely high quality job, but the usual wear marks you would expect on car in daily use have reappeared. The driver`s and passenger`s doors both have several minor dings and nicks. There is some very light oxidation in selected areas of the top surfaces, much of which will come out with careful polishing. The window glass, including the windshield, is excellent. The black canvas top is fairly new and in very good condition. This car is fitted with the more desirable one-piece European style headlights, and comes with the extra set of US style lights. The interior is very original. Much of the carpet is original, and shows the normal wear you would expect from a 44 year old car, but are very good considering their age. The dash and console wood is very good- with no separation, delamination, or water damage. While the driver`s seat looks to have been reupholstered in proper leather, the passenger`s seat remains original, and needs to be recovered. The rear seat leather shows usual wear. The leather door panels are in excellent shape, as is all the interior chrome. The headliner is undamaged and does not sag, but shows some minor discoloration. Period correct seat belts are fitted, as is the original Becker radio, and VDO dash clock. The engine compartment remains stock and original. The truck is extremely nice, and looks to be unchanged from new. Much mechanical work has been carried out in the last 10,000 miles. Although there was no measurable wear on any of the internal engine components, the motor was completely rebuilt. At the same time, the injection pump was rebuilt, and new injectors and a new distributor fitted. A new exhaust system was ordered from Germany. The brakes, including the booster, were rebuilt. More recently, the clutch was replaced. The brakes, transmission and suspension all feel healthy and robust. The underside, while not detailed, shows absolutely no signs of damage or rust. All the gaps gutters are straight throughout, confirming this as an unmolested, no-stories car. With the car comes the spare tire and wheel, the tonneau cover for the soft top, complete manual pack including service books, owners manual, parts catalog, supplements, and lubrication chart, as well as the extra US spec headlights.
