Description

1963 Bentley Continental S3 Mulliner Park Ward Coupe s/n BC160LXC Dark Blue with Cream Leather Interior As the last model before in the introduction of the monocoque cars, the series three version of the Bentley S models is truly the last of the coachbuilt cars. Though most of them featured the standard steel saloon bodies, a few were built with Mulliner Park Ward Continental bodywork. Thanks to their well-proportioned and comparatively modern Coupe bodies, and motivated by the recently introduced 6.2 litre V8, these cars were meant for owner-drivers, and not the more insular owners of the Rolls-Royce cousins who were used to being driven. This particular car was sold new in France, and is thus a very rare left hand drive model. The car was imported to Japan during the 1980`s, and then imported by its current California owner. It has seen some restorative work and much mechanical freshening, and is in lovely ready to enjoy condition. The car has been treated to a high quality repaint, which exhibits no surface imperfections, prep issues, or orange peel. The panels fit well, with nice consistent gaps, and the paint remains in excellent condition, with just a few small cracks. The rear valance is showing some age. The chrome is very nice, with some surface scratching and light pitting, but nothing to significantly detract from the overall impression that the car makes. A pair of Lucas `flamethrower` auxiliary lamps is fitted, and all lights and glass are in excellent condition, though there is a small crack in one of the front fender marker lamps. The interior is very nice as well, with just some light patina. The seats are in nice supple condition, with some creasing, but no shrinkage or drying. The wood is good to excellent, with excellent finish on the doors and waist rails, and some minor cracking on the dashboard. The carpets and headliner show very light wear but remain presentable, and a full set of extremely plush lambswool carpets is included. The instruments, switches, and chrome are well-preserved and in nice condition The trunk is largely original and is still presentable, while the jack and tool kit are present with some tools. The engine compartment is partially detailed, and appears to have had much restoration work performed recently. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire an example of the last of the coachbuilt Bentleys, and the last of the true Continentals. Its unusual left hand drive configuration makes it much more usable in the United States, while its excellent condition is important because these cars are expensive and difficult to put right when they need work.
