1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce
s/n AR *390183*, Engine no. AR00536 *20568*
White with Black Interior

The Giulietta, and later the Giulia are the cars that took Alfa Romeo from being a relatively small production company to being an economically viable and successful firm. Prior to that, they had produced large and expensive cars, and never in very large numbers. With the Giulietta/Giulia, however, Alfa Romeo produced significant numbers of these charming and capable cars. Its success was due in part to its unique placement in the market. It was neither a large hugely expensive car, nor was it very small utility car (such as the Fiat 500). Instead, they were affordable enough so that many could buy them, yet permitted a more glamorous and useful approach to motoring that really struck a chord with buyers on both sides of the Atlantic. The Giulia Veloce enjoys the honor of being the highest performing and most developed open variant of the line, thanks to its 1600cc version of the venerable twin cam engine, twin Weber carburetors, higher compression ratio, and hotter cam profiles. Performance was much improved over the standard car, and as is often the case with Italian cars, the latest models are the most developed.

This particular example has been owned by the same California owner for the past 25 years. The body is exceedingly straight and solid. The chrome shows some age but is presentable throughout. Included with the car are the rear overriders. The glass and lenses are all in good order. The car sits on GTA replica alloy wheels with newer Pirelli tires.

The interior is very complete and shows little wear throughout. The seats and door panels are in nice condition. The gauges are complete and in working order. The factory steering wheel is present, and the interior chrome is all in good order. The canvas top material is new. The trunk features the correct rubber mat on the floor.

The engine bay is freshly repainted in white, and shows exceptionally well. Many correct details are in place, including the nearly impossible to replace cast aluminum air box and window washer bag. This car is fitted with a 1968 Guilia Veloce engine with a 3-bolt starter. Mechanical work was carried out well known Alfa Romeo specialist Conrad Stevenson. The underside is not overly detailed, but is very solid thanks to its long-time California ownership.

Alfa enthusiasts will be thrilled with the driving experience offered by this Veloce. The car starts easily from cold, revs freely, producing excellent power with little, if any smoke. The engine makes excellent oil pressure both when warm and cold. The transmission synchros are very nice, however it must be held in reverse. The clutch operates properly. The suspension and steering box are tight and responsive. The disc brakes are effective, and pull the car down straight.

Included with the car is the owner’s manual, tonneau cover, and some receipts from the work that was completed.

This is a great opportunity to acquire one of the quintessential Italian sports cars. The Giulia Veloce represents the most technically advanced and powerful variant of the Giulietta/Giulia Spider series, and the sprightly performance from the 1600cc duel Weber equipped DOHC engine, 5-speed transmission, and wonderful overall driving experience, will encourage the new owner to get out and enjoy this car as much as possible. Of the 10,318 Giulia Spyders produced, just 1,091 were true Veloce specification cars.
