Description

1965 Ford Mustang GT A-Code Convertible
s/n 5F08A774930
Ivy Green with Ivy Gold and White Interior

Creating an entirely new genre of American car, the Pony Car, the Mustang was a tremendous success that showed that American motorists did not always feel that bigger was better. Sharing much of the mechanical components with the comparatively pedestrian Falcon, the Mustang captured the imagination of an entire generation and spawned a series of imitators. Available in both closed and open forms and with a host of different powerplants, the Mustang was such a hit when it came out that one Detroit baker claimed that his hotcakes were selling like Mustangs. Competition variants of the car proved hugely successful in races, particularly the ones that were reworked by Shelby American. The 289 cubic inch V8 was available in a variety of tunes to suit budgets and performance requirements of the American public.

This particular car is a genuine A-Code convertible with GT package, completed on the 30th of June 1965 at the Dearborn, Michigan plant. It is a factory 4-speed car that was fitted with the A-Code 289 cid engine with 10.0:1 compression ratio and 225hp rather than 9.3:1 and 200hp. The car remains its original color combination and was equipped with luxury interior trim and 3.00:1 rear axle ratio. The car has been comprehensively restored and has seen much recent work including fully rebuilt suspension with new Bilstein shock absorbers, new clutch, new driveshaft bearings and a balance, new brakes, and new seatbelts.

The car is in excellent restored condition with very nice paint over excellent panels. The paintwork shows minimal wear and aging, just a few small chips from road use and a handful of small scratches. The chrome is generally excellent, including the bumpers, aside from some light pitting and a few scratches on the windscreen surround. The top is excellent and the car sits on Rally wheels. The car has the GT package and retains its correct GT equipment and attributes including dual exhaust, fog lamps, HCC-AX quick ratio steering box, GT instrument cluster, and many other details.

The interior is in beautiful condition and has been correctly restored in its original colors. The carpets, upholstery, dashboard, door panels, and instruments are all excellent and unmodified other than the installation of the Hurst shifter. The original shifter is included with the car. The car has the luxury interior package including center console. The engine compartment is very clean and generally correctly presented with original type air cleaner and windscreen washer fluid bag. The trunk is also correctly presented with plaid plastic liner. The undercarriage is solid throughout and extremely clean.

This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a superb Mustang convertible that has been restored in a manner that is exceptionally true to the car’s desirable original specification, which included A-Code engine, 4-speed transmission, GT package, and attractive color combination. The car comes with a host of spare parts including an extra set of Rally wheels, hub caps, original shifter, valve covers, alternator, and radio.
