Description

1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe s/n 1E30053, Engine no. 7E1147-9 White with Blue Leather Completed in late 1964, and first sold in 1965, this 4.2 liter E-Type was finished in cream with red interior and delivered to Mr. M.R. Waldgan of Colorado, USA. It is best described as a nicely kept, unrestored car which has been driven regularly and maintained as necessary by previous owners, and has enjoyed a dry climate throughout its life. While not a show car, it is clean, straight, and predominantly rust free. Mr. Waldgran sold this E-Type in 1969 to a family in Grand Junction, Colorado who kept this car for 35 years, not selling it unitl 2004. The former owner, now 79 years old, reports that she never drove it in winter and always kept it in a heated garage. She also stated that it had never been in an accident while it was in her family, and there is no evidence of accident damage about the car. As an early 4.2 Series One car, it retains all of the beauty, grace and power of the early cars while providing the benefits afforded by a smooth shifting full synchro transmission, negative ground alternator driven electrical system, and the more comfortable adjustable seats of the later cars. S/N 1E30053 was the 53rd Series 1 4.2 E-Type coupe produced and retains much of the cosmetic appearance of the 3.8. Cosmetically, the car is presentable and can be thoroughly enjoyed as it is. The body is quite straight and the door and trunk gaps are good. The bonnet gaps are even, but the alignment is slightly off, such that the rearward gap is uniformly enlarged. The car has been repainted in a color slightly whiter than cream. The repaint was a good job appropriate for the value of the car at that time. The chrome, much of which appears to be original, is in good condition, consistent with a `driver`. The windshield is also probably original, showing some wear. The car sits on very good chrome wire wheels. The interior has been reupholstered, and the color changed from red to attractive dark blue. The headliner appears to be original and in very good condition, while the carpet, door panels, console, rear storage area, and seats upholstery were all redone at one time as part of a kit, and have very little wear. The engine bay is largely original and complete with the often missing window washer bottle. It is clean, detailed, and appears to be free from any significant leaks. While probably not up to show standards, the engine bay is definitely above average. The under carriage is generally solid and predominately rust free. The passenger`s foot well has been replaced with an aftermarket unit, which the driver`s side is original and in good condition considering its age. Both sides have small spots of deterioration about the size of a quarter at the low points, which is almost inevitable on these cars. The balance of the underside is straight, solid and remarkably dry. The odometer indicates 89,257 miles, which was confirmed as correct by the previous owner, given the mileage at the time she bought it, sold it, and the amount of time (35 years) the cars was in her family. The engine in the car is still the original, apparently never having been rebuilt, yet it still runs sufficiently, and cleanly, with good power. In 2005 ball joints and tie rods ends were replaced. In February 2006 the clutch was replaced and the engine and transmission removed from the car and resealed, top and bottom. The steering universal joint was also changed at this time. In July 2006, the alternator was rebuilt and the voltage regulator replaced. At present there are virtually no engine or transmission leaks. With the car come some records from the previous ownership period, The Heritage Trust Certificate from Jaguar confirming this as a matching numbers example, a jack and hammer, and the spare wheel with tire. Also included are an operator`s manual and a complete new hose set from XKs Unlimited. For the perfection minded buyer, this is the ultimate platform for an easy and straightforward restoration. For most, this car will represent a clean and straight driver that has no urgent needs mechanically and is ready to be enjoyed.
