Description

1966 Austin Healey 3000 Mk. III Phase II
s/n HBJ8L38231, Engine No. 29K/RU/H12834
British Racing Green with Black Leather Interior

This is an original two-owner California car that has been properly maintained to keep it in good running condition. It was originally sold in Oakland, California and has been in Northern California since new. Its current owner has owned it since 1970. It is largely straight and honest, with its only known incident a minor impact with a cable car (an honor that few cars, and only California cars, can claim!) in 1973. The left front fender was replaced at Vann`s Auto Body and the rest of the car (including the tricky grille section) was unharmed. Over the years, the car has never been fully disassembled for restoration, but has instead been renewed as necessary to keep it in proper cosmetic and running order.

It comes with extensive documentation and has been serviced at either BMC (British Motorcars, now a Jaguar, Land Rover, Rolls Royce, and Bentley dealer) in San Francisco or British Car Specialists. Much recent work has been performed to ensure that the car is running properly. Within the last two years, the transmission and overdrive have been rebuilt, the seat upholstery renewed, a new stainless steel exhaust system fitted, the brakes renewed, and the radiator restored. Other less recent work includes a repaint in the early 90`s, a new soft top in the early 1980s. The car is fitted with chrome wire wheels and working overdrive.

Cosmetically, the car is attractive. The paint is older and is now showing some signs of wear and aging, but is on the whole very nice. The chrome is presentable and shows some minor wear, but no pitting. All lenses and lights are excellent, as are the badges. The glass is all very good, but the windscreen has some pitting and two small chips.

The interior is very nice. The seats were recently redone in leather and look great. The wood is excellent as well, as is all chrome trim etc. The car is fitted with a Moto-Lita steering wheel, though the varnish on it is past its prime. The original trafficator/horn button is present and in excellent shape. The carpets are excellent as well, as are the door panels and dash top.

The engine compartment is largely original with the exception of a few new bits, including an extremely attractive polished alloy valve cover. There is also a recent Mallory ignition coil, and the carburetors are nicely polished. The trunk is presentable and very correct. The rarely present tie-downs for the battery and spare tire are intact and a correct painted spare wheel is also present.

The car comes with a number of extras including the rare and period correct and hardtop, car cover, workshop manual, embroidered floormats, and knock-off hammer. These extras speak to the wholesomeness of this car and its history, which is especially appealing because of the irrefutable California ownership. This is a genuine rust-free two-owner car that, in conjunction with its numerous service records, is extremely honest.
