Milano Maroon with Black Interior
Widely regarded to be one of the greatest sports cars of the 60’s, and one of the greatest Corvettes of all time, the C2 generation or “Sting Ray” is an American icon. Available in a wide variety of specifications, they proved to be quite successful on the race track, and in terms of sales. They incorporated contemporary mechanical innovations, including independent rear suspension, disc brakes for 1965, and even fuel injection briefly.
This particular car is an astonishingly well documented “survivor” example, in original paint, and with original interior. It has been award every conceivable NCRS and Bloomington award applicable to an original car. Every number is known and documented throughout the car. This Corvette runs and drives phenomenally well, with that magically tight feel of an ultra low mileage, unrestored car.
The car was built on April 1, 1966 and ordered on April 4th from Dutch Folk Chevrolet in Akron, Ohio, by James Hanna who took delivery on April 16, 1966 paying a total of $4883.45, including the following factory installed options and accessories of $ 599.15:
2M20AA 4 Speed Transmission
2G81FA Positract Axle 370R
2C05BA Convert Top White
2988AA Milano Maroon
2U69AA PB AM/FM Radio
2N11AA Offroad SER Exhaust
2P92AA 775 x 15 x 2 Ply WSW
2L79AA 350 hp V8 Turbofire
Mr. Hanna belonged to the “Tire Town Car Club” in Akron, and changed the oil every 1,500 miles using Kendall motor oil and fueled up with Sonoco 260 gas. He stated that he babied the car across any railroad tracks, never smoked in the car and never drove in any bad weather, although, he does admit to opening the car up once and saw 146 miles per hour on the speedometer! After eight years of ownership and having driven the car only 12,000 miles he sold it to his good friend, Eugene Seifert also from the Akron area for the sum of $3,950.00. At this time, the car had 1,200 miles on the odometer.
Mr. Seifert kept the car stored at his second home located at Lake Mohawk, Ohio, for the next 29 years. During this time only 5,000 additional miles were put on the car, using it only once or twice during the summer months to drive around the lake. Having only been driven on sunny days, most of its life was spent covered in a garage. As records show, he then changed the tires on April 25, 1974, and took off the original US Royal Laredo 775 x 15’s and stored them with 12,000 miles on them at the time the car still possesses these tires and its original knock-off hubcaps to this day. Records show a continuous service history with all work being performed at Jimmy’s Service in Massillon, Ohio, including June 22, 1976 (brake servicing) with 14,449 miles on the service ticket and August 29, 1998 (brake servicing) with 16,932 miles on the service ticket. The final service from Jimmy’s Service was done June 30, 2001 (oil service and battery change) with 17,016 miles on the service ticket no doubt to prepare the car for sale.
After the previous owner acquired this car in May 2003, it earned a “Top Flight” award from the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) at the regional judged meet held at Welches, Oregon (September 2003), and a “Top Flight” award from NCRS judged chapter meet held at San Luis Obispo, California (May 2004). More recently this Corvette was awarded the coveted top three awards of “Bloomington Gold”, “Bloomington Survivor”, and “Bloomington Benchmark” at the Bloomington Gold annual event held in June 2004. Only 8 cars were bestowed this honor out of over 100 judged.
The current owner has continued this car’s show success. In April of 2005 and August of 2006 it again won the NCRS “Top Flight” awards, as well as the Duntov Mark of Excellence award. In June of 2006 it was granted the “Performance Verification” award, and finally in June of 2006 it won the “Bowtie” award for Preservation of excellence at a National Convention.
