1967 Chevrolet Corvette 327/350hp Coupe
s/n 194377S114591, Engine no. V0302HP
Lynndale Blue with Dark Blue Interior
Introduced for the 1963 model year, the C2 generation of Corvette was an instant hit. The car carried over the excellent engines from 1962, but the remainder of the car was new, with its now iconic styling and independent rear suspension. In 1963 and 1964, all cars were equipped with 327cid engines, and the most powerful of these was the variant equipped with Rochester fuel injection. In 1965, the Corvette received disc brakes all around for the first time, addressing a longtime area of criticism of the car, particularly considering its significant power ratings. 1965 also marked the arrival of the big block engines (initially 396cid and later 427cid), with the small block continuing on in a variety of forms. 1967 was the last year of the C2, and 22,940 examples were built. Of this, just 492 examples were 350hp manual transmission coupes such as this one. Only 3788 cars were equipped with air conditioning, and 1381 were finished in this shade of Lynndale blue against the much more common shade of Elkhart blue.
This particular example is a knock-out example of the highest caliber. It is matching numbers throughout, including engine, transmission, 3.70 rear axle, body, and chassis. It was comprehensively restored in 2004-2006 by known Corvette experts Tony’s Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Body and paint work was carried out by Total Autobody in Dumfries, Virginia. After the restoration was completed the car received the “Top Flight” chapter award at the NCRS meet in June of 2006. It remains in its lovely original color combination of rare beautiful Lyndale blue with blue interior, and has an extremely complete set of original paperwork, manuals, and sales literature. The original order sheet and inspection sheet are included with the car, showing that it was sold on the 19th of April 1967 by Andy Jones Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Angleton Texas to Frank Paul Mariano. The original list price was $5,519.85 and the original options were as follows:
C60 Air Conditioning Four Seasons
J50 Power Brakes
N40 Power Steering
N36 Telescopic Steering wheel
A01 Tinted Glass
418AA Dk/Blue Vinyl Trim
L79AA 350hp V8 Turbofire
M21 AB 4-speed Close Ratio Trans
U69AC AM/FM Radio
P92AA 775X15X 2 Ply Tires
The original paperwork is impressive including Chevrolet plastic sleeve containing wheel trim ring instructions, AM-FM radio instructions, key envelope, radio tuning tag (which attaches to tuning knob of radio), and jacking instructions. The warrantee booklet is also present (along with protect-o-plate and the envelope it came in), along with the owner’s manual, optional accessory booklet, maintenance card with checked off matrix showing the car’s early services, color chips booklet, Corvette sales brochure, and dealer model information binder pages. The car also comes with much recent paperwork including comprehensive photographic documentation of the restoration, a binder of invoices from the restoration, and the judging sheets from the NCRS meet at which the car scored 98.1 points.
In early 2009, a further $23,239.00 was spent on the car to make it an exceptionally fine driving example. This work was completed at Canepa Designs and included repairing the AC, recalibrating the fuel gauge, numerous electrical fixes, new tires, and rebuilds of the suspension and driveline. The driveshaft was rebuilt, the u-joints rebalanced, the half shafts rebuilt, the rear wheel bearings replaced, and the radius rod bushings replaced. At the front, new ball joints, tie rod ends, and pitman arms were fitted, and the car received heavy duty springs, Bilstein shock absorbers and new heavy duty sway bars as well. Heavy duty heim joints were also employed, and a 4-wheel alignment performed.
As expected, this car is in outstanding cosmetic shape, with excellent paint, fit, and trim. The chrome is very good, and the wheels are beautifully restored. The glass is also excellent, and the rear windscreen is even correctly coded, as noted in the judging sheet. The badging is present and in good shape.
The interior is extremely evocative, particularly in its teal color scheme. It is in superb shape throughout, from the upholstery to the carpets, dashboard, instruments and switches. There are no significant indications of wear, as to be expected from a 3 year old high quality restoration that has been carefully looked after since.
The engine compartment is stunningly detailed, extremely clean, and of course highly correct, right down to the finish on the engine block and the “327 cid Turbo-Fire” decal on the air cleaner. The underside is equally impressive, being superbly detailed and spectacularly clean.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding last year C2 Sting Ray Corvette of the highest quality. Presented in award-winning condition in its stunning and rare original color combination, this car is also matching numbers, has great options, and has an extremely impressive stack of both original paperwork and recent awards and invoices. Following its recent sorting work at Canepa, the car is also an exceptionally fine-driving example, making this an example to drive, show in elite Corvette circles, or both.
