1967 Ferrari 330 GTC
s/n 10215, Engine no. 10215
Rosso Corsa with Black Leather
The successor to the widely desired 250 and 275s, Ferrari’s 330 series evolved the legendary platform that bred such vehicles as the stunningly beautiful 250 California and the jaw-dropping 275 GTB. Production of the 330 GTC and GTS began in 1966 following its reveal at the Geneva Auto Show. The 330 GTC shared a basic chassis design with the earlier 275, as well as a similar ethos of stylish comfort blended with excellent V12 performance. The car was powered by a larger version of Ferrari’s Colombo V12 first found in the 275 GTB. With a single overhead camshaft, wet sump lubrication, and a trio of Webber twin-choke carburetors the engine produced roughly 300hp, but considerably more torque than the 3.3L 275 power plant, making the cars easier to drive across a broader spectrum of situations. Throughout the production run very few changes were made apart from a change to twin oil coolers in later model cars (roughly s/n 9800 onward) and on the very last of the cars, a later transaxle, identifiable by a handbrake mounted on the center console. The GTC was also far more livable than their earlier counterparts and were once said to be “the first Ferrari in which one could actually enjoy a radio”. For this reason, among many others, the cars are widely desired by many Ferrari collectors who will often choose the 330 GTC from their stable of cars if any long-distance driving is in order.
This particular example is finished in quintessential Ferrari Rosso Corsa over black leather and presents itself as an example ideal for an individual who wishes to drive and enjoy the vehicle. Inside and out, the car makes a nice driver presentation, with reasonably good paint and a largely original interior. A color change from grey, the exterior of the car has several small blemishes in the paintwork around the grille and on the front wings, but overall the paint presents nicely. The car’s chrome and wheels show very nicely with very few marks on the chrome, but no notable wear on the car’s Campagnolo knock-off wheels with the correct straight spinners.
The interior of the car strikes a nice balance with the exterior, but with an apparent high degree of originality throughout. The leather on the car’s seats is likely original and the seats themselves remain in quite good condition. The carpets are also likely original throughout. Elsewhere, the car’s wood dashboard and leather headliner are preserved and intact as is the beautiful original Nardi wooden steering wheel. This particular example was factory supplied with the desirable air conditioning option, of particular importance to the interested party expecting to participate in long distance touring events.
The car’s engine bay also displays several beautiful touches of originality alongside the car’s well-detailed 300hp V12 engine. The aforementioned touches include correct Fiamm horns and yellow fuel lines, along with the correct battery mounting hardware, and windshield washer bag. This particular car, being a later serial number, is fitted with the twin oil coolers of added during the production run.
s/n 10215 is a pleasant car to drive. While the engine smokes a bit from the right bank, the transaxle shifts well and the clutch engagement occurs in the correct range. The carburetors are well tuned when warm, and the brakes are effective. While not a freshly restored piece, it is running and driving, and serviceable at this time.
Included with the sale are select records, a partially complete tool roll, a jack, matching spare Campy wheel with tire, and a car cover. Also included is a detailed historical binder with considerable ownership and service documentation, complete with a copy of the factory built sheets for this particular car, which is very rare.
Interestingly, this particular GTC was owned in Italy in the 1960s by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, who was a famous pianist, and friend of Enzo Ferrari himself. Mr. Michelangeli is mentioned in Mr. Scaglietti's obituary, as well as Enzo's biography.
An excellent vehicle for an enthusiastic driver, this 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC would make any number of owners very happy with its largely original presentation and lovely driving character. With a winning combination of classical V12 Ferrari sporting character and a higher level of everyday drivability, this particular GTC is bound to make for an excellent and highly period-correct driving experience for a spirited driver and owner.
