Description

1967 Ferrari 330 GTC
s/n 10105, Engine no. 10105
Silver with Black Leather Interior with Red Carpets

Widely regarded to be one of the best driving and most usable classic Ferraris, the 330GTC is highly sought after today. These cars are extremely nice to drive, even in today’s traffic, because of the wide torque band provided by the 4 litre V-12 and the tractability and balance that result from the combination of the transaxle and torque tube. The cars perfectly tread the line between the classic Ferrari essence and more modern technical features such as rear-mounted 5-speed gearbox, disc brakes and independent suspension all around, and genuinely muscular powerplants. Air conditioning was also optionally available for the first time. Because of its elegant understated lines and classic Ferrari layout, the 330 GTC has finally emerged from years of under-appreciation. Just 600 330 GTC were constructed between 1966 and 1968. While many GTC owners have large collections of important Ferraris, their GTC will often be the choice car for driving events.

Sold new by the Ferrari concessionaire in Rome, this matching-numbers car was equipped with optional and desirable air conditioning. The car was serviced three times at the original selling dealer by 23 February 1968. The car remained in Italy until 1975, by which time it was with an owner a Signore Stefano Sergio in the small town of Pizzoli in the province of L’Aquila, registered to plate number AQ 93583. In April of 1975, the car was purchased by an American, Bill Morton, of San Carlos, California. He, along with his wife Judy exercised the car often, including at the Virginia City Ferrari HIllclimb. After his death, she kept the car, owning it until 2013, giving this car known California history for nearly forty years.

Beginning in 2001, a thorough restoration was undertaken, including engine rebuild by Brian Crall in 2004 and paint by Brian Moore, which was completed in 2007. The interior, including seats, interior panels, carpets, and trunk, were redone using original Ferrari materials by Stewart Tifft. Nearly every aspect of the car was included in the restoration, including brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, new exhaust, rebuilt carburetors, correct FISPA fuel pump, rebuilt air conditioning and countless other items. Additionally, the car has seen many thousands of dollars of recent sorting work with Patrick Ottis to bring the car to its current correct and nicely dialed in state.

The car is very correctly presented and is in excellent driver shape. The body is excellent, being straight and displaying very good panel fit. The paintwork was done to high standards and remains very nice, with a handful of small chips on the front of the car from road use, as well as a few areas or minor orange peel. The chrome is mostly excellent, with only light scratches on the front and rear windscreen surrounds. The remaining chrome is almost completely free of wear or aging. The car is fitted with desirable and evocative Talbot mirrors, which are mounted on the fenders and are in fine shape. The lights and glass are excellent throughout, including correct Carello headlamps. The wire wheels have been beautifully restored and have the correct type spinners as well as Michelin XWX tires.

The interior is equally nice, with correct details and finishes throughout. The upholstery is excellent throughout, including the seats, door panels, console and dashboard. The wood is excellent, with the correct amount of luster to the finish. The instruments and controls are also in excellent order, as are the carpets and headliner. The steering wheel is in very good shape, and the car is fitted with period Blaupunkt radio. The windows work unusually quickly for a vintage Ferrari.

The engine is extremely clean and well-detailed. Like the rest of the car, it is correctly presented, with many correct details such as the semi-gloss finish to the airbox, decals on the brake booster and throughout the engine compartment, yellow fuel hoses, and windscreen washer fluid bag. The inner fenders, engine, and ancillaries, are all impressively sanitary. The trunk is also nicely presented with correct loop carpeting in excellent shape. Even the light operates. The undercarriage is structurally excellent and quite clean, but not freshly detailed.

The car is quite complete with original large tool roll with tools, original jack bag with jack and chock, light bulb holder with bulbs, a complete set of restored alloy wheels with A-008 tires that have never been on the ground, correct spinners for alloy wheels, as well as service manual, parts catalog, original warrantee booklet, and dealer directory. The car comes with its original electric cooling fans as well.

Long a favorite among Ferrari connoisseurs who appreciate their excellent road manners and elegant styling, the secret around the 330 and 365 GTC is out, with a recent explosion in values. After years in the shadow of some of their less understated brethren, GTCs are now appreciated for their mechanical sophistication, performance, elegance, and rarity. Just 600 examples were built and this is a very high caliber example. A matching-numbers car, this GTC is finished in its elegant original color combination, enjoys long term uninterrupted California history, is desirably equipped with wire wheels, radio, and air conditioning (the only options available), and is complete with books, tools, and records. Indeed, it would be difficult to find a finer example to drive and enjoy.
