Desirable 365GTC, One of 150 Produced. Wires, A/C
1968 Ferrari 365 GTC
s/n 11939
Racing Red with Black Leather Interior
Widely regarded to be one of the best driving and most usable classic Ferraris, the 330 and 365 GTC and are highly sought after today. While 600 examples of the 330 were built, just 149 365 GTC’s were built. Both variants are extremely nice to drive, even in today’s traffic, thanks to the wide torque band provided by the engine, and the tractability and balance that result from the combination of the transaxle and torque tube. 365’s are substantially the same as 330’s, with the exception of the extra .4 litre of displacement, which makes the cars extremely rapid, even by today’s standards. The cars are also fitted with Daytona type transaxle and emergency brake arrangement. From a driver’s standpoint, the 365 GTC is the premier roadgoing Ferrari coupe produced in the 1960’s and is particularly desirable not only for its increased power, but also its rarity. Because of their elegant understated lines, superb driving experience, and classic Ferrari layout, these cars have a timeless appeal that continues to earn them a spot in the collections of the most discerning Ferrari enthusiasts.
This particular car has spent much of its life in California, having been belonged to owners in Southern California since the early 1980’s and into the mid 1990’s. The car then passed on to another California owner via Fantasy Junction, who kept the car until 2004. During that period, the carburetors, distributors, and front suspension were rebuilt. Since then, the car has been with an owner in Utah. The car has been fitted with a new exhaust system and fuel pump, and has just received a new battery.
Cosmetically, the car is in very nice condition. It was repainted to high standards many years ago and remains very good, with a handful of signs of aging in selected areas. The body is straight, rust-free, and has good gaps, though there are a few small chips and stress cracks about the exterior finish. The chrome is very nice as well, with only light pitting and haze, and is believed to be original. The car has a number of details that indicate that it has survived well, including Talbot mirror, correct Carello headlamps and twin stalk windscreen wipers, in addition to the often missing fiberglass radiator shield under the front of the car. The windscreen has only light wear and the remaining glass and lamps are in fine shape as well. The car currently wears wire wheels, including the spare.
The interior has a predominantly original feel to it, and it appears that the dashboard, headliner, instruments, and upholstery excepting the seats are original. The seats were reupholstered in leather some years ago and they now have just the right amount of patina. The carpets are in fine shape, and the dashboard and door panels are very nice, particularly considering their age. The steering wheel is in very good condition as well. The car is fitted with a modern CD player and aftermarket air conditioning.
The engine compartment is tidy and correct, and has never been restored. The trunk also appears to be original and is in great shape. The car is equipped with five wire wheels, and the jack, hammer, and bag are also present. The car displays excellent oil pressure, and the engine is very strong. The transaxle is extremely good, with good second gear syncho, both warm and cold.
This is a very rare opportunity to acquire a fine example of one of the most desirable classic Ferrari road cars. It is in very nice cosmetic condition, but not so nice as to discourage its new owner from actually using it. With one of the best classic Ferrari driving experiences in existence, that is what this car is meant for, and is sure to provide much pleasure to its new owner.
