Wonderful Early Fulvia by Zagato. Rebuilt Engine.
1968 Lancia Fulvia Zagato Sport 1.3
s/n 818332002580, Engine no. 818302
White with Black Interior
Always industry leaders in design innovation, Lancia’s Fulvia 1.3 “Sport”, with front wheel drive, and a narrow angle 1.3 liter V4 engine was no exception. Easy to control with their front wheel drive, and capable of 110 mph, Lancia campaigned Fulvias Sports in international rally and circuit events throughout Europe with great success. In total 6 different bodies were mounted to Fulvia chassis. The Zagato bodied are generally regarded as the most aesthetically pleasing of all variations.
This particular car was reported by a reputable auction house to be a 9,900 mile, museum kept example when sold to the current owner. While that may be the case, there is no paperwork to support the mileage. That said, this Fulvia is most certainly an exceedingly clean and solid example, with much recent work including an engine rebuild, and is among the best on the market today.
The body is in very good order, with no bubbles, or major flaws to speak of. The car has certainly been painted once, and the paintwork is of appropriately high quality for a rare, Italian car of this value. The exterior brightwork appears to be original, and is complete and straight, but shows some superficial scratching.
The interior is impeccable, with beautiful seats, door panels, dash wood, and crack free dash cap. New, correct style rubber mats have been installed and are in as-new condition. The gauges are all in excellent order, as is the brightwork. When imported to the US, the speedometer was changed from kms to miles and currently reads 4,934.
The engine bay is beautifully detailed, with correct finishes applied where appropriate. This example retains its original Solex carburetors. The undercarriage is solid, and nicely detailed to excellent “tour” standards. Recent work completed by the new owner includes suspension bushings and motor mounts.
Included with the sale are selected invoices from the current ownership period, an owner’s manual, and the original Italian paperwork showing just two owners, as well as the kms speedometer.
This example strikes a wonderful balance in that it is nice enough to casually show where it will surely garner positive feedback, but not too nice to justify using it as a daily driver. With prices exceeding $500,000 for the 1600cc Alfa Romeo TZ, this is an opportune change to acquire a well sorted, exotic, Zagato bodied, small bore Italian GT before prices on these too soar out of sight in today’s fast moving market.
