Description
1971 Ferrari 246 GT `Dino`
s/n 2618
Delivered in Fly Yellow with Black Interior
Few cars on our showroom floor represent as much opportunity as this car. In the last year we have seen Dinos almost double in value, a trend we can expect to continue. With other Dino Coupes in the Ferrari Market Letter advertised at $95,000 and $135,000, this car is accurately priced at less than half of a finished example. With much of the hard work out of the way, and many new parts have already been acquired, it needs final paint prep, upholstery, and assembly.
Delivered new to Europe, this car was exported to the US early in its life. The current owner bought the car in 1978 and has kept it in Las Vegas, NV throughout his ownership. He claims to have rebuilt the engine in 1995 as he was an avid SCCA racer and mechanic at that time. The car was disassembled for paint and other restoration work shortly after, and has been stationary since.
With the intentions of doing a high point restoration the owner either restored or bought new parts to replace those which were removed. New front, side and rear window seals, front and rear inner fender wells, frontal compartment, and trunk gaskets are all included. The spare tire bay plastic and trunk plastic is new. The front and rear bumpers and headlight rims were re-chromed. A new grille and grille mouth is included. New plastic door pockets were purchased, as was new Ferrari correct headliner material. The Ferrari and Dino emblems on the exterior are new, as is the prancing horse horn button. A new fuse box cover and screws are included. A new trunk latch assembly, radiator cap, and emergency triangle are all included. Cumulatively, tens of thousands of dollars have already spent in an effort to get the very best replacement equipment.
What is not new is in reasonably good, original condition. The Door panels, side windows and frames, interior door trim, wing windows, sun visors, marker lights, side mirror, radiator fans, seat belts, spare wheel, window wipers, stainless rocker trim, horn assembly, and body hardware are all accounted for and in original condition.
There are duplicates of many parts including the fiberglass cover for the frontal compartment and the plastic spare tire bay. With the exception of the steel sheets which cover the floors on the underside, we believe the car to be complete.
There is minor rust in the body behind the rear wheels, but none evident in the doors, chassis, or rocker panels. Obviously, this is an ideal time to correct the effected areas. While there is no damage or damage repair noticeable on the body, both rocker panels and the underside below the passenger`s seat have some damage as a result of road debris.
The interior will need to be reupholstered. The steering wheel and dash have remained in the car and are in very good condition. The seats are serviceable, but would benefit from being recovered, along with the headliner. The carpets have been removed. The engine bay is stock and in reasonably nice condition, although not extremely detailed, as is the front compartment.
We have started and run the car and can confirm that the engine sounds good. Compression readings are all between 140lbs and 150lbs cold. With the car comes the original jack and jack bag, spare wheel, and all duplicate parts. We have available a full photographic inventory of all the loose parts which can be emailed to seriously interested parties.
