Description

1971 Lanica Fulvia Zagato 1.3S
s/n 818650002055
Dark Blue with Black Interior and Red Trim

Always industry leaders in design innovation, Lancia`s Fulvia 1.3 `Sport`, with front wheel drive, and a narrow angle 1.3 liter V4 engine was no exception. Easy to control with their front wheel drive, and capable of 110 mph, Lancia campaigned Fulvias Sports in international rally and circuit events throughout Europe with great success. In total 6 different bodies were mounted to Fulvia chassis. The Zagato bodied are generally regarded as the most aesthetically pleasing of all variations.

This particular car is among the last 1300 Fulvia Zagatos built, and was equipped with the very rare five speed gearbox. Additionally, this car has been subsequently fitted with a 1.6 liter engine, probably an HF unit, which has recently been rebuilt by Jaan Hjorth.

Cosmetically this example is best described as a nice, straight, presentable driver. The panel match is good throughout, with no obvious signs of major repairs. All the original emblems and badges are present. Much of the exterior chrome and stainless trim is probably original and has moderate hazing, pitting, or sanding marks. The repaint, done about 5 years ago, was a color change from red, and was of reasonable quality appropriate for the car`s value at the time. The hood has been repainted since and is a slightly darker shade of blue. There are a handful of minor paint imperfections about the car which are consistent with a `driver`. The car sits on nice FPS wheels with Dunlop Formula R 185/60R14 tires.

The interior is also in good `driver` condition with excellent seats (less headrests), new black fabric headliner, original wood steering wheel, and nice rubber floor mats which are probably original. The door panels are nice, and probably original. There are and handful of sun cracks on the upper surface of the dash, a situation which is common to Fulvia Zagatos, and some imperfections to the dash wood, but the interior makes a strong overall impression.

Mechanically the car is fantastic. The engine was just rebuilt by Lancia expert Jan Hjorth. This work consisted of a complete bottom end rebuild and valve job, and currently the car has break-in miles only. Second gear syncro is excellent both warm and cold. The brakes are effective and the suspension tight and compliant. The lower A-arms fitted to the car have been modified to allow for more negative camber which reduces understeer. With the car comes the unmodified stock A-arms. All the gauges and accessories are operational. The wiper blades come with the car, but are not attached.

With the car comes the spare wheel with tire, the original A-arms, sway bar, Solex carburetor set with manifold, some interior parts, and a myriad of other very useful spares from horn buttons to throw out bearings. With prices approaching half a million dollars for the 1600cc Alfa Romeo TZ, this is an opportune chance to acquire a well sorted, exotic, Zagato bodied, small bore Italian GT car before prices on these too soar out of sight in today`s fast moving market.
