Description

1973 Bentley T1 Corniche Convertible s/n DBH14491 Silver Mink with Dark Blue Interior Just 33 Bentley T1 Corniche Convertibles were built between 1970 and 1976, making this example an extremely rare and very elegant motorcar. This particular car was completed in late 1972 as a 1973 year model, and sold new to Mr. S. J. Philips, editor for a British tabloid. It was fitted at the Factory with a special Pioneer stereo, and Lucas fog lamps. In an ironic turn of events, Mr. Philips sailed his yacht into the Mediterranean and disappeared without a trace, leaving this Bentley to his Estate. The current owner bought this car in England in 2001 and promptly imported in to California where it has been ever since. Cosmetically the car is in excellent condition. The body is straight with good gaps and no evidence of collision or rust repair. Other than a recent repaint in its original color, the car has been largely undisturbed. The respray was a fairly high quality job, and other than two small scratches on the left side, and one very minor paint bubble the size of a pencil eraser, the finish is free of any major flaws. All the chrome and stainless trim is excellent, with no pitting or noticeable deterioration. The car sits on factory wheels with good hubcaps and Avon 235/70R15 tires with very little wear on them. The interior leather has been re-dyed in its original color and is in very good condition, with the wear and creasing you would expect from a 72,000 mile car. There are no holes or tears of any kind anywhere in the upholstery. The carpets are good, although the there is some moderate discoloration on the passenger`s side footwell. The dash and console wood is good, but not flawless, as there are some very minor nicks in the varnish. There is no water or sun damage to the wood. There are no known issues with the car mechanically. All the gauges, switches, and knobs work properly. All four windows go up and down, and the convertible top functions correctly. The engine idles so smoothly that it is almost undetectable to the occupants. The brakes are effective and stop the car evenly. The engine bay and underside are representative of a well kept, unrestored car. The underside is free of rust or rust repair. With the car comes the complete manual pack, detailed service records back to the mid 1980s, and documentation from the initial sale. The car also comes with an appraisal from Polk Associates, LLC for $64,500 citing three other 1970-1976 T1 Corniche convertible sales between $45,000 and $84,000 USD. One of just 33 examples, this car is sure to provide the new owner with superb mid-Summer top down English elegance.
