Description

1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 `Daytona` s/n 14279 Fly Yellow with Black Interior As the last of the classic front-engined V12 flagship Ferraris, the 365GTB/4 needs little introduction. It is quite simply one of the most evocative, beautiful, aggressive, and collectible Ferraris that captures the essence of the classic Ferrari experience. This particular US-market car is in excellent condition with a beautiful restoration and extremely desirable equipment. The restoration was a ground-up affair and almost all major and minor systems were renewed or replaced, from the bodywork and paint to the suspension and brakes to the interior and trim. The car received new rocker panels and door skins, new paint, new front and rear windscreens, and all new rubber trim. The chrome was also done and many of the lights and lenses replaced. The interior was redone with new leather, carpeting, headliner, dash, and instruments. Almost everything was replaced, including the correct `mouse hair` dash covering and new leather on the door panels and center console. The suspension and brakes were completely rebuilt, as was the electrical system. The engine was freshened as required, including rebuilt cylinder heads. The car comes with full tool roll, jack, and manual pack (including parts book) in correct holder. The car is also fitted with P6 grind cams and European headers, which bring the power output to approximately 400hp. Combined with the competition ratio 3.90:1 differential, this Daytona has the fastest setup for American road use and provides extremely quick acceleration. To put down the power and torque, the car is fitted with 9-inch rear `Boxer` alloy wheels which of course are fitted with correct Michelin XWX tires. The car is also fitted with air conditioning. As a result of the restoration, the car is cosmetically and mechanically outstanding. The repaint is a spectacular job and almost impossible to fault. The quality is exemplary with essentially no surface flaws or imperfections. The panel gaps are good and the body is extremely straight. This car does not have rear reflectors in the rear fenders, which are usually seen on US-market cars, preserving the clean Pininfarina lines. The correct side mirror is fitted and is in very good condition, and the remaining chrome is even nicer, having just been refinished. The wheels have been restored and the glass is excellent. The interior is in similarly beautiful condition. The center console, door panels, and seats were all reupholstered in high quality leather and the carpets were renewed as well. The dashboard and headliner were both redone in the correct materials and an 8-track player is still installed. The car is fitted with air conditioning, which blows, but not cold. The gauges have been restored and the wing windows have been modified so that the latches will not fall off, a common Daytona idiosyncrasy. The trunk and engine compartment have also been restored and are excellent. The trunk carpeting has been mostly renewed and the correct spare tire is present. The engine bay is show ready, having been extremely well-detailed, and is both dry and clean. The original Dinoplex ignition boxes, knurled air filter knobs, and miscellaneous decals and plaques are all present and in excellent restored condition. The underside is in beautiful restored and detailed condition. The A-arms have been cadmium plated, and various other components have been powder-coated, contributing to the very strong impression that the underside makes. Driving the car is representative of the Ferrari experience and why these cars are so sought after. The engine feels strong and the performance is remarkable. The bottom end was disassembled during the restoration and was found to be excellent and was thus not rebuilt. The oil pressure is excellent and all synchromeshes function well, including the second gear synchro when cold. The brakes are very effective and confidence inspiring. This is an opportunity to acquire a stunning example of this important car. Thanks to its sparkling restoration and host of desirable and difficult-to-find equipment, this car is a rare find, even among these already rare cars. It also has known ownership history from new, including the original selling dealer, and comes with the difficult to replace tool roll with tools and original books.
