Description

1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4
s/n 14809
Red with Black Leather Interior

When introduced, the 365 GTC/4 was Ferrari’s top of the line model, a sort of gentleman’s express that brought the performance and experience of the 12-cylinder front-engined cars with a degree of comfort and refinement that made the car more usable. With a comfortable, relaxed seating position, more interior space, functional air conditioning, and power steering, the 365 GTC/4 achieves a pleasant balance between a thoroughbred sports car and a luxury grand touring car, and is considerably less exhausting to drive than the 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” produced during the same period. The 365 GTC/4 is the most mechanically sophisticated and highest performance of the classic 2+2 Ferraris, and has enjoyed considerable appreciation in recent years.

This example is a US car that was produced in December of 1971. It has spent nearly all its life in California, having been sold new at Hollywood Imports. Its first owner kept it for two years and sold it to a long term owner in North Hollywood, who owned a jewelry shop and kept the car from 1974 to 2006. In 1996, the car was repainted and the engine rebuilt. The car was offered for sale by Fantasy Junction in 2006, and facilitated the car’s subsequent transition to new owners twice more since then. The car has seen extensive recent work, including a significant engine refresh by Dino Motors in San Mateo, California at a cost of over $21,000, which included new engine gaskets, seals, new piston rings, new clutch, new bearings, new valve seals, and much other work. This work was carried out 4500 miles ago. The car has been conscientiously maintained in recent years by its current owner, who has driven it quite regularly in the last 4 years. Recent work has included standard fluid changes, new soft brake lines, miscellaneous electrical repairs, and various other work. The car has also received sympathetic interior repairs including retrimmed front seats, some new carpet, and various other items.

Cosmetically, the car is a very nice driver and makes a good cosmetic impression. The body is straight and solid, displaying good panel fit and operation. The paintwork was done to very good standards and is holding up well, especially considering its age, with some minor wear from road use, and the occasional stress crack or star. The chrome is very good with some minor surface scratches and pitting on the door handles. The wheels are in very good condition, having been recently restored, as are the lights and lenses. The car is equipped with Cibié headlamps. The glass is generally very good other than some road wear and wiper marks to the front windscreen. The trim is also very good other than some minor deterioration to the paint on the black trim behind the door frames.

The interior is largely original and in very nice condition considering this. The front seats were recently reupholstered and the carpets are in good condition. The dashboard, door panels, center console, headliner, and rear parcel shelf all appear to be in excellent original condition. The rear seats are original and are in reasonable shape, with some dryness and pulling seams in evidence. The switches and instruments are in very nice condition, as is the Momo Prototipo steering wheel.

The engine compartment is generally correct in appearance and quite impressive thanks to the six side draft carburetors and dual overhead camshafts. The car has been fitted with MSD electronic ignition. The car retains its windscreen washer fluid bag. The overall condition is of a nice tidy driver that has received consistent maintenance. The trunk has correct carpet in excellent shape, as well as original jack in bag.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an attractive driver level 365 GTC/4 that has been properly maintained and regularly driven, which gives it a significant head start over a car that has suffered from long periods of disuse. It has known California history from new and comes with service records back to 1996, as well as original manual and jack bag with jack.
