Description
1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4
s/n 15625
Rosso Nearco with Black Leather
Built in May of 1972 for the US market, this car was sold new in Huston, TX through Simpson Automobiles. It has had four long-term owners from new, with service history and ownership documentation going back to 1974. The actual mileage of 27,733 is supported by the ownership and service documentation. The engine, transmission, and differential numbers all match this chassis. Some years ago, this car saw a very high quality repaint in its original color. The interior remains very original and in good condition as such. This car is best described as a very original car, unchanged from new in appearance, and currently is `excellent driver` condition.
The body is exceptionally straight, with excellent gaps and crisp door shut. There is absolutely no evidence of accident or rust repairs to the body, underside, or chassis. The repaint was a very high quality job and is without orange peel or fish eye. Flaws in the paint are limited to minor rock chips in the frontal facing area, one small ding in the passenger`s door, some minor paint cracking in the passenger`s side roof pillar, and one small ding the size of a dime in the roof. The chrome and stainless trim, gasketing, window glass, and lenses are all excellent throughout. The black rubber bumpers show only very minor discoloration. The car sits on beautiful, unrestored Cromodoras with very good Michelin XWXs.
The interior is representative of a very well taken care of 34 year-old car. The seats are original, and in good condition considering their age, with no tears or holes. The door panels show wear appropriate for a 27,000 mile car. The grey mouse fur dash and console are both in excellent original condition. The original Becker Mexico radio is fitted. The red carpets, having been covered all their life, are near perfect, as is the headliner. The sill plates and door jams are clean and straight.
The car makes excellent power with minimal smoke, and has excellent oil pressure. The suspension is soft and compliant, and the brakes stop the car effectively and evenly. Second gear synchro is good, both when warm and cold. A more durable than stock stainless exhaust system has been fitted which amplifies the wonderful Ferrari V12 exhaust note we all know and love. New heat shielding has been installed with the new exhaust. All the switches and gauges are fully operational with the exception of the Becker Mexico radio. All the equipment for the A/C system is in place, and it blows, but not very cold. Much recent mechanical work has been done including the installation of a new clutch and ring gear. In the most recent ownership period the shocks, brake calipers and regulator were rebuilt along with the distributors. The electronic ignition boxes have been updated to later model and more reliable Magneti Marelli units.
This is a wonderful driving car. All the controls are light to the touch and operate harmoniously. Perhaps no Ferrari of the era achieved such a pleasant balance between performance and luxury as the 365 GTC/4.
With the car comes the jack and jack bag, US supplement to the owner`s manual, original parts book, Ferrari Heritage Certificate, original Magneti Marelli ignition boxes, and a number of other odds and ends which may prove very helpful to the new owner.
