Description

1973 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 s/n 15613 Marrone with Tan Leather When introduced, the 365 GTC/4 was Ferrari`s absolute top of the line executive model. With a comfortable, relaxed seating position, functional air conditioning, and power steering, the 365 GTC/4 achieves a pleasant balance between a thoroughbred sports car and a luxury grand touring car, and is considerably less exhausting to drive than the 365 GTB/4 `Daytona` produced during the same period. The 365 GTC/4 is by far the most sought after of the luxury touring models of the era, and has enjoyed considerable appreciation over recent years. This example, s/n 15613, is a fantastically original, high point car, which shows just 10,148 miles from new. The car is accompanied by its complete tool suitcase with tools, jack and jack bag, and entire manual pack including warranty card. Records are on hand for work dating back to 1995, when the car showed just 7,300 miles. A major service was completed at this time. The fluids were changed, carburetors rebuilt, fuel lines replaced, fuel pump rebuilt, water pump seal replaced, and hydraulic brake system serviced with new seals. The clutch and throughout bearing were replaced, and the flywheel surfaced. Given the exceptionally low mileage, it is likely this example sat unused for some years before the service work was performed. Since the service, the car has seen light but regular use, including last years Copper State Rally, during which it performed flawless. This car was built for the US market, imported through Chinetti Motors, and sold to Interconex, Inc. by Wide World of Cars in July of 1974. At some point s/n 15613 found its way to Southern California and was owned by Lionel W. Achuck, Jr. The car was then sold by Symbolic Motor Car Company to a prominent collector in 2005, who sold the car to Fantasy Junction in 2007. Every aspect of car, from the excellent second gear syncro to the crisp door shut, echo the phenomenally low mileage. The car has been recently repainted in its original marrone. The repaint was a very high quality job, appropriate for an expensive classic car. The door jambs and bonnet and trunk gutters are both smooth appear to have been professionally prepped as part of the repaint. There is almost no evidence of use since the repaint, although there are some chips inside the bottom of the left front wheel arch, which we plan to touch up. The body is straight as an arrow, and shows absolutely no evidence of damage repairs from above or below. All the chrome and stainless trim, window glass, lenses, and emblems are original and as nice as you could possibly expect from a 33 year old car. The car sits on very nice Cromodora wheels with good Michelin tires. The interior is completely original and in fantastic condition. The tan leather remains soft and supple, and shows almost no evidence of use. The dash and console `mouse hair` fabric is excellent, considering its originality. The headliner and rear shelf upholstery have also been fantastically preserved. The period Blaupunkt radio is still fitted. The engine bay has not been restored, but is correct in equipment and complete with often missing window washer bag. The underside is nicely detailed, straight, rust free, and representative of an excellent, original, low mileage car. The trunk is also in very good original condition. The car has a sound, tight feel. The suspension is compliant and the brakes effective. Second gear is a common weak point in Ferraris of this era, and this car has near perfect (like new) syncros both when warm and cold. Correct model Ansa exhaust systems are still fitted, and this car resonates that wonderful V12 exhaust note we all know and love. All the equipment for the air conditioning system is in place and the system blows, but not very cold. The fuel gauge works, but intermittently faults to empty. With the car comes records back to 1995, the complete manual pack and tool kit, jack with bag, and spare wheel. Many enthusiasts who have owned both 365 GTC/4s and 365 GTB/4 `Daytonas` prefer the drivability aspects of the C4, and tend to use them more. At just about half the cost of a comparable Daytona, the 365 GTC/4 is excellent value in the front-engined V12 Ferrari world, and are likely to continue to be a fantastic investment as they have proven to be over recent years.
