Description

1973 Porsche Carrera RS Touring Homologation s/n 9113600059 engine no. 6630065 Beigegrau with Black Interior The legendary Carrera RS is widely regarded to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest roadgoing Porsche ever. Its primary purpose was to homologate the car for competition use, which required the construction of a minimum of five hundred examples within twelve months. Eventually, the cars proved to be so popular that the production run was expanded several times, with an eventual total of 1580 cars being built. The cars themselves featured larger more powerful engines, flared rear wheel arches to accommodate wider wheels, numerous deletions and alterations to reduce weight, improved suspension, and a few cosmetic alterations, which would become the car`s trademark. With its distinctive contrasting striping and wheels and the simple and functional `burzel` or ducktail, the styling of the RS is iconic. The real treat, however, is in the driving. It epitomizes the ultimate Porsche experience with its immense tactility, balance, and nimbleness. Very few cars are as communicative and engaging as a properly set up 911 of this vintage, especially a Carrera RS. This particular car is one of the first five hundred examples built, and is thus one of the cars that actually contributed to the homologation of the RS for racing. These early cars differ in detail from later examples (most notably lacking the pebbled finish to the inside of the engine compartment and front deck lid). This car, like the majority of RS`s, was originally white, but has been repainted to its current striking beigegrau color, a contemporary Porsche color that was available in period. According to the authoritative survey of the Carrera RS written by Thomas Gruber and Georg Konradsheim, this is a matching numbers Touring (engine no. 6630065, transmission no. 7830059), that was delivered with sport seats and limited slip differential. The car was comprehensively restored in Europe, and imported to the US about two years ago. At this time, the engine was rebuilt with 93mm pistons (in place of the 90mm standard ones), to bring the displacement to just under 2.9 litres. The car has seen little use since and remains in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition. It has required little recent maintenance and performs superbly. The car has been fitted with upgraded hydraulic chain tensioners to combat the failure which is known to occur on these cars, and it retains its period Blaupunkt radio. The car has also been fitted with wider seven and eight-inch wheels. This is an opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of this legendary car in an unusual and period correct color. Unlike many RS Touring`s, this car has not been in any way converted to lightweight specification, but is instead an unmolested and turnkey example that will bring much pleasure to its new owner.
