Description
1973 Porsche 911 RS
s/n 9113601530, Engine No. 6630459
White with Red Accents and Black Interior
One of the most sought after and well regarded road cars built by Porsche, the nimble, yet powerful 2.7 RS achieves a timeless balance of performance and drivability. It is an extremely pure and unique driving experience that also has the welcome benefit of reliability. The 1973 Porsche RS is one of the all-around best cars of the 1970s, and one of Just 1,360 2.7 RS `Touring` Carreras built.
This example is best described as an extremely strong and very original `driver`. Currently the car shows 90,302 kms. It is mechanically outstanding, having just had a comprehensive service/minor restoration by Motion Products West. This included the standard 15km service; oil change and filter, flush brake system, new fan belt, spark plugs, and valve adjustment. Additionally, the sway bar bushings, injector pump seals and belts, clutch, fly wheel, release bearing, and pressure plate were replaced. The work was a no expense spared `fix everything` effort, and no known mechanical issues remain. All gauges and lights are fully operational, and the electric sunroof works perfectly. The car has a tight and responsive feel, with excellent syncros, good power, no smoke, and great brakes.
The car has seen a recent, high quality repaint in white. The original color combination was paint code \"2323\" which is Tangerine. The car currently wears paint code \"2225\", Grand Prix White with Red scripts. Paint code \"2225\" is an original Porsche RS color combination.
Two small nicks on the bottom of the spoiler have appeared since the repaint but the panel matches and body seams are excellent throughout. There is no evidence of body damage or repairs, and the car is fitted with full `lightweight` bumpers, including rocker trim delete. All the chrome and stainless trim is either restored, or in extremely good, original condition. The window frames are straight and clean, and the window glass is excellent, including the windshield which is neither pitted nor cracked. The car sits on restored fuchs with new Bridgestone Potenza 205/50R15 front and 225/50R15 rear tires. Unusually, they are the rare and desireable seven and eight inch versions.
The interior is in excellent, original condition. The headliner, door panels, front and rear seat leather, dash leather, and carpets are all excellent. The sill plates and door jams are straight and in good original condition. This car is fitted with a factory electric sunroof, an option found on very few RS Carerras. A later cassette player has been added.
The underside is extremely straight and in wonderful, original condition. The floors and rockers are straight and rigid with absolutely no evidence of rust or damage repair. The engine bay is in nicely detailed, unrestored condition. While this engine was not originally delivered with this car, it is the correct type and series for this chassis. The trunk is fitted with new wool matting, and is in good original condition.
This unmolested RS should appeal to enthusiasts who prefer unrestored cars that run perfectly, to a mechanically tired example with a cosmetic restoration. It is an extremely fine example that drives, looks, and feels consistent with the legend that the RS Carrera has become.
