1973 Porsche Carrera RS Touring s/n 9113601446, Motor No. 6631401 White with Red Accents and Black Interior The legendary Carrera RS is widely regarded to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest roadgoing Porsche ever. With its distinctive contrasting striping and wheels and the simple and functional `burzel` or ducktail, the styling of the RS is iconic. The real treat, however, is in the driving. It epitomizes the ultimate Porsche experience with its immense tactility, balance, and nimbleness. This particular car was delivered new in Germany, and was subsequently imported to the United States. According to the authoritative survey of the Carrera RS written by Thomas Gruber and Georg Konradsheim, this is a matching numbers car and was originally finished in the color it wears today, Grand Prix White with red accents. It has had much restorative work performed, including a full engine rebuild and a thorough cosmetic refurbishment since it arrived in the US. The documentation for this work is included. Various other odds and ends were also renewed, including the tires, starter, various switches, and body seals. All of this work was performed within the last two and a half years and 1500 kilometers, and the total for all included receipts is $38,271.16. Consequently, the car is excellent, both mechanically and cosmetically. The exterior presents beautifully, and is extremely difficult to fault, with only one noticeable chip anywhere, which is on the edge of the trunk lid. The paint is otherwise superb in both condition and quality. The glazing is excellent, and all lights and lenses are in like-new condition. The chrome trims around the windows show only the slightest signs of wear, and the remainder of the chrome shows none at all. The wheels and tires are in superb shape, with only minor chipping to the right rear wheel`s red paint. The other wheels are nearly faultless. The interior presents as well as the exterior. The carpets, upholstery, headliner, dash etc. are all in excellent condition. The seats are the correct Touring sport seats and show no wear. The steering wheel, including the leather, is in as new condition, and the dashboard is free from warping, cracking, and discoloration. The clock and all other gauges work correctly, and the general feel of the interior is extremely fresh and tidy. The trunk is correct and very clean, with all carpeting present and in excellent shape. The space-saver tire is present, as is the tool roll. The engine compartment is equally nice, and shows much evidence of recent work. It is well detailed, very clean, and very attractive, both above and below. Close scrutiny reveals that all cylinders are completely dry and extremely clean, reflecting the low mileage since the complete rebuild. Further inspection of the underside reveals stainless steel heat exchangers and muffler, as well as Bilstein shock absorbers. The remainder of the underside is in good unrestored condition with wear that is consistent with the age and mileage of the car. The driving experience is truly what these cars are about, and this car does not disappoint. Even among Carrera RS`s, this is an exceedingly fine example to drive. The motor sounds good and makes excellent power, with a noticeable increase in urgency as the revs increase. The suspension is compliant without feeling soft, and the communication through the steering and the seat of one`s pants reminds occupants why this car is such a legend. The fitment of modern rubber helps provide enough grip to confidently explore the remarkable chassis, and indeed, the handling is excellent, with the slightest bit of understeer dialed in for safety. The car does not pull to either side, even when braking, and the brakes are both reassuring and very capable. This is an excellent example of this highly significant model. Surely one of the most enjoyable Porsches ever to have been built (and by many accounts, the ultimate roadgoing 911), the Carrera RS is a motoring icon now matter how you cut it. This car with its exemplary condition and well-sorted feel is a genuinely outstanding car, and also comes with tool roll and tools, owner`s handbook, and French language RS-specific owner`s supplement.
