Description

Alfa Romeo GTV 2000
s/n AR3023875
Silver with Butterscotch Interior

Designed for Bertone by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the GTV was an immediate favorite from its introduction as the Giulia Sprint GT in 1963. During the production of these charming cars, their effortless design changed very little. The car experienced light changes to the headlights, taillights, grille, and instrument panel over its 14 years of production, yet the elegant lines and solid proportions iconic to the car remained.

In 1969, the primary revision came with the elimination of the early “stepped” hood. It was then that the Giulia Coupe became known as the GTV. Under the hood was another story all together. Over the years, the engine displacement grew which altered the GTV’s character. The innovative high-revving, carbureted 1570 cc DOHC four (1600) was succeeded by a 1799 cc four (1750) with a SPICA mechanical fuel injection system in the GTV of 1969, which presented some difficulty to the owners to get the primal car set up correctly. The 1974 model had a smoother, more responsive but lower-revving motor that, despite its greater power, still delivered quite beautifully.

This particular GTV is a long-time west coast car, which was purchased from Griswold’s in 1975 by Buck Scofield. Buck put 91k miles on it, and parked it in his barn in the late 1980’s. He had one minor accident at some point at the front left, which was repaired by Anthony’s North in Napa, which has since closed.

The car was sold to its second owner in 2003 when they began a mechanical restoration, which included a rebuild on the engine at 92k miles. The rebuild now has 7k miles on it as do the following parts: Borgo pistons, Pittatore Cams from Alfa Parts, mild port and polish, Weber dcoe 40s on a Euro intake Spica (the injection system included), stainless steel braided brake lines and stainless steel braided hoses to match, cross-drilled rotors, oversized master cylinder, Centerline sport springs, Koni shocks, new bushings, new ball joints, new driveline rubber, radiator was re-cored, new fuel pump, stock exhaust. More recently, the car was fitted with a clutch and clutch master cylinder. In addition, there have been several user-friendly updates, including an electric cooling fan.

The fuel rank was removed and modified with new boot to accept new style pumps easily and the sending unit was fixed. They cleaned and painted the tank and installed the new fuel pressure regulator which did the trick to get the Webers humming. A new exhaust and tail pipe were installed, and comes with the original parts. A Weber support system and PCV system to the carburetors was installed, as well as a thermo switch for cooling fan and the emergency switch.

In July, 2009, the car was purchased by Bridgeway Motors and additional work was completed, including: removal of the front springs and installation of new upper arm inner bushings and caster busing (OE type), R&R wipers and foot pump, the door panels were removed and lubed and the window winders and door handles were adjusted to work smoothly. The bulbs were replaced as needed in the dash and the column switch was rebuilt.

The owner has used Red Line lubricants exclusively since the rebuild. The engine bay is mechanically sound and reasonably detailed. The stainless trim, including the grille and window trim are all in good condition, while the stainless steel bumpers are in good shape and do not show any damage or dents. The lights and glass are in excellent form and show no cracks or chips. All of the emblems are in tact.

The body is straight and shows no dents or rust, and the panel fit is good throughout. It has been repainted in the original color, but some spider cracking is evident on the upper surfaces. There are rock chips, representative of typical driving, along the nose and one on the hood of the car.

The interior of the car is beautiful, with only an issue of mild staining near the C pillars. While not the original, the fitted Nardi wooden steering wheel is in impeccable shape and fits the car perfectly. The interior wood veneer is in excellent shape and shows no signs of cracking or fading, and the a modern radio is fitted nicely into the center console. Although the front seats were recently recovered to match the original back seats, it is nearly impossible to tell that the front seats were done more recently. The dash top and rear parcel shelf original and show no cracks. The door panels have been replaced with NOS panels, so as to remove the holes from the previously existing speakers.
The headliner is in great condition, as well as the carpets. The front seat headrests have the typical wooden supports, which are in stunning shape and work properly.

The trunk is unrestored, and there is a spare tire and jack. The car has Dunlop SP Sport A2 tires which look to be virtually new and are mounted on Cromodora wheels which have been powder-coated in dark silver to match the Grigio paint. There is a car cover and extra front floor mats in the trunk. The underside of the car is clean, and shows no rust. There is a 1” sway bar. The car comes with a small bin of various bits, including the original steering wheel, as well as the original exhaust.

This particular example is a well maintained, mechanically sorted GTV that’s fit for use as a daily driver or as an event car.
