1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000
s/n AR 3026518
Silver with Black Interior
Designed for Bertone by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the GTV was an immediate favorite from its introduction as the Giulia Sprint GT in 1963. During the production of these charming cars, their effortless design changed very little. The car experienced light changes to the headlights, taillights, grille, and instrument panel over its 14 years of production, yet the elegant lines and solid proportions iconic to the car remained.
In 1969, the primary revision came with the elimination of the early “stepped” hood. It was then that the Giulia Coupe became known as the GTV. Under the hood was another story all together. Over the years, the engine displacement grew which altered the GTV’s character. The innovative high-revving, carbureted 1570 cc DOHC four (1600) was succeeded by a 1799 cc four (1750) with a SPICA mechanical fuel injection system in the GTV of 1969, which presented some difficulty to the owners to get the primal car set up correctly. The 1974 model had a smoother, more responsive but lower-revving motor that, despite its greater power, still delivered quite beautifully.
This particular example is a tasteful hot-rod, and is among the very last examples built. The SPECA fuel injection has been exchanged for the desirable twin Weber set up. The engine is built with hot cams, the car sits on 15” Panasport wheels, has Koni shocks, and it is fitted with a Manga Flux exhaust system. The seats have been improved for more side support, the bumpers removed, and a nice stereo system has been installed. This particular car was sold new to a dentist in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and optioned with A/C. All of the A/C equipment is included with the car. When recently tested the car showed excellent compression readings between 200-210 lbs on all for cylinders. The car is sold as a recently serviced and tuned, event ready example.
Cosmetically, the car is exceptional when compared to most GTVs. The paint and interior are both excellent, as is the brightwork. The engine bay is tidy but not restored to show quality. The underside clean and rust free, with no repairs or damage evident.
A wonderfully upgraded example that would be a joy on rally events, or as a charismatic daily driver for the Italian motoring enthusiast.
