1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS
s/n 7860
Red with Black Interior with Red Inserts
Named for Enzo Ferrari`s son, Alfredino, who had died in 1956 at the age of 24 as the result of muscular dystrophy, the Dino was, fittingly, a `baby` Ferrari that was dimensionally smaller and more nimble than any other street Ferrari previously offered. Its mid-placed engine was a Ferrari first for a street car, while the quad cam V6 was a soulful engine that capitalized on Ferrari`s racing experience gained from building racing V6`s. Styling was of course by Pininfarina, and the Dino has long been a favorite among Ferrari enthusiasts thanks to its beautiful lines and proportions, lovely engine, and balanced chassis.
This particular car is an extremely attractive late production example that is in excellent cosmetic condition and has also seen much recent work. It is a US model car with air conditioning, power windows, and Daytona seats, and was in Southern California for many years. It has several years of records showing that the car has been well looked after, with regular attention to various items associated with keeping the car in good mechanical and cosmetic shape. About 200 miles ago, the car was comprehensively serviced at Norbert Hofer`s Gran Touring Classics Inc. at a cost of $5658.33, which included fluid changes, hoses, and new carburetor floats. The engine and transaxle were removed for resealing and to adjust the shifter mechanism, and the cooling system was comprehensively serviced including all hoses, coolant, and thermostat. The oil cooler was also rebuilt and the hose replaced.
The car has also been cosmetically restored, and is in very good condition. The paintwork was renewed to high standards and shows just a handful of small blemishes, and the car is straight and rust-free. The chrome is excellent as well, as is the rubber trim. The car has been fitted with new Hella H4 headlamps, and the remaining lights are excellent (including the European rear lamps). The glass is very good throughout, with some light pitting and wiper marks on the windscreen only. The car sits on the correct Michelin XWX tires, and the wheels have been restored.
The interior of the car is stunning. It has been comprehensively restored using the correct materials, including the mouse fur dashboard. The doors panels and seats were reupholstered to the highest standards using very high quality leather, and the carpets were renewed as well, to similarly high standards. The windscreen posts and center console were also renewed using the correct materials, and even the steering wheel has been beautifully restored. The car is also fitted with over mats featuring prancing horses, as well as air conditioning, which is not functioning at this time.
The trunk is original and well-preserved, with some slight deterioration to the carpeting at the edges. The jack and jack bag are included with the car, as is the spare, which lives in the correct and well-preserved front compartment. The engine is extremely clean and well-detailed. The correct decals and hardware are still in place, and following the recent service, the correct hoses are in like new condition. The underside is solid, rust-free, and dry, and has never been restored.
Mechanically, the car makes a strong impression, particularly the engine, which is very strong and has been well set up. The brakes and steering are very good as well, while the gearbox is fundamentally sound and well-adjusted, but does display moderate synchromesh wear as is typical with these cars.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a late production open Dino that would be perfect to casually show, or to drive and enjoy. Its lovely cosmetic condition will make any owner proud, while its spectacular interior will bring further enjoyment to its new owner while using the car.
