Description

1975 Ferrari 365 GT/4 2+2 Spyder Conversion
s/n 18359
Red with Black Interior

Built on around 365 GT/4 2+2 mechanicals, this Spyder conversion was fabricated at considerable expense and retains its 365 mechanical components including engine, transmission, suspension, and brakes. The car was rebodied and essentially completely rebuilt over a 5 year period starting in 2007 and received much work including rebuilt suspension and transmission. Previous service records indicate that the car was fastidiously maintained by Tim Stanford and at Shelton Ferrari, the main dealer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2004, the car received about $25,000 in mechanical work, including rebuilt carburetors, rebuilt alternator, major engine service, tune up, rebuilt braking system, and new clutch.

The car presents well cosmetically, with minimal wear since its completion in 2012. The body displays good craftsman ship and a nice level of finish. The paintwork was done to very good standards and is virtually unmarked. The lights, glass, and trim are all quite fresh in appearance and the car sits on beautiful wire wheels with new Pirelli tires. The windscreen, top, wiper mechanism, and door innards are from an Alfa Romeo Spider and are in excellent shape.

The interior is in excellent shape, with the factory Ferrari seats still in place, which are in very good shape. The instruments and shifter are also the factory Ferrari components. The remainder of the interior is custom fabricated and is in excellent shape overall with nice dash, new carpets, and restored door panels. The car is fitted with wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel and Becker Europa radio.

The engine compartment is very impressive. The engine, carburetors, and airboxes are very clean and imposing, with six side draft carburetors. The engine and ancillaries are nicely detailed. The trunk features a fuel cell and full carpeting. The factory Ferrari jack bag with jack is present with the car. The undercarriage is extremely clean and shows the craftsmanship that went into building the car.

The best way to experience this car is to drive it. It is a well-resolved and properly set up example that feels better than most 365s of the period. The suspension, brakes and gearbox all work well, and the engine sounds great and is well tuned.

The car comes with extensive documentation including many thousands of dollars of invoices indicating the care it received before, during, and after the conversion. There is also a photo file from the build, spare keys, original 365 GT/4 2+2 books, and factory jack bag with jack. The car is titled to its 1975 365 GT/4 serial number, making it smog exempt in California.
