1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi VIN: ZFFAA02A2B0037143 Rosso Corsa with Tan Interior With its shapely Pininfarina styling, the 308GTB and its open counterpart, the 308GTS, is the ideal attractive and affordable entry-level Ferrari. As such, they have always been-and always will be-popular ways to experience the incomparable Ferrari experience. This particular example is a GTSi and thus has a removable roof panel, and fuel injection, making it perfect for enjoying in the sunshine while also eliminating major concerns regarding passing smog. This car has receipts from the last several years, outlining conscientious maintenance. Within the last 3000 miles and five years, the rear brake calipers have been rebuilt, new pads fitted all around, the steering box overhauled, the rear shocks replaced, the radiator recored, the alternator rebuilt, and all hoses replaced. A major service including belts was also done in 2001, but just 5000 miles ago. The car also had a spectacular new interior fitted at a cost of $10,000 The car is in good cosmetic condition. The paint is presentable with a few chips and swirl marks, as well as light oxidation. However, the car makes a strong impression and vulnerable areas, such as the lower spoiler area, are in excellent condition. There are small areas of bubbling noted on the bottoms of the doors. The rubber trim is excellent throughout, including the seals for the removable roof section. The glass and lights are in very good condition, including the Hella H4 headlamps and the wheels are very good as well. The interior of this car is truly stunning, and surely among the finest 308 interiors we have encountered. The seats and door panels were expertly retrimmed in tan leather that appears to be from a contemporary Ferrari. The work was done with excellent correct detailing and fit, and the stitching patterns and embossed headrests are very finely done. The dashboard also appears to have been reuphostered because of its excellent condition; however, it fits so well that it could simply be original and in as-new condition. The carpets were also renewed to extremely high standards using what appears to be contemporary Ferrari material as well. The floor mats are done in the same material and featured embroidered shields. The steering wheel has also been superbly retrimmed, and even the switch plate markings are still intact and unmarked. The headliner appears to be original and is unmarked. The top bag behind the seats is still present and excellent, and there is an older Blaupunkt cassette player installed. The only flaw noted was the inoperability of the clock and the yellowing of its glass. The engine compartment, trunk, and front compartment are all in fine original condition, with no untoward wear, and much evidence of recent maintenance in the engine compartment. All compartments are tidy, though there is no spare tire. The underside is also in original solid condition with evidence of recent mechanical work. Mechanically, the car performs well. It stops, goes, and corners as it should. The second gear synchro works well, both warm and cold, though the linkage adjustment is imperfect and intermittently catches when selecting second. Sometimes however, it works faultlessly. This is an opportunity to acquire an attractive open-air example of the affordable and usable 308. As the first of mid-engined eight cylinder Ferraris, this car is the direct ancestor of today`s highly acclaimed F430, as well as being an important car in Ferrari`s history, one that allowed them to survive the tumultuous years of the 1980`s. This particular example comes with its manual pack, tools, jack, cover, and Ferrari seat covers.
