Description

1984 Ferrari 512 BBi `Berlinetta Boxer` s/n ZFFJA09B000049171 Rosso Corsa with Black Leather The Boxer line represented a remarkable departure for Ferrari. It was the successor to the comparatively conventional Daytona, and Ferrari's first mid-engined flagship. Those who had witnessed Lamborghini`s stunning Miura had been anxiously awaiting Ferrari`s response, and the Boxer did not disappoint. Featuring a horizontally opposed twelve-cylinder motor longitudinally mounted inline with the transmission, it had a low center of gravity placed near the center of mass. Clothed in suitably rakish bodywork by Pininfarina, the Boxer was a stunner. The 512 BBi represents the ultimate development of the Boxer line and was distinguished from the 512 BB and 365 models that preceded it by the introduction of fuel injection. Today, the Boxer remains a dramatic and exciting car that is masculine without being too demanding to drive. This 50-State EPA/DOT approved example was brought into the US in early 1984 and carries a California Title showing 1984 as the first year sold. It has been tastefully fitted with all the necessary side market lights. It has undergone a full engine-out major service including a clutch replacement approximately 6 years ago at Virtuoso Performance in Hayward, California, California. Fantasy Junction does not have copies of these invoices. The car has traveled very few miles (approximately 2,000) since the service was completed. More recent work includes a complete service of the A/C system, and replacement of one of the alternators, and correction of non-operational windshield wipers, together totaling $4,808. Even today, the performance remains eye-opening, much more so than the Testarossas that succeeded the BBi. Cosmetically, the car is outstanding. The body is exceptionally straight and shows no evidence of damage or repairs. The paintwork looks to be completely original and is excellent in quality and condition. The only noticeable paint flaw is a scratch above the left rear tail light which has been brush touched in an effort to avoid painting the rear panel, keeping the car completely original. All lenses are excellent, and the car is fitted with four flat-faced Cibiheadlights in new condition, and a pair of Cibifog lamps. The car is also fitted with the more attractive triple-eared knock-offs on Cromodora alloys wearing nearly new BF Goodrich tires. The window glass is excellent all around, and none of the window gasket surrounds look to have been removed or replaced. The interior is also exceptional for an original 23 year old car. Aside from some slight shrinkage to the dashboard leather, which is inevitable on Boxers, the interior is free from any major flaws. The leather on the door panels, console, steering wheel, visors, and headliner is excellent. The seats have virtually no wear, and no scuffing on the driver`s side bolster common to higher mileage cars. The gauges appear as new. The carpets have been protected by fitted inlays and are also like new. A later model CD player has been fitted, while the original Pioneer equalizer remains. With the car comes the original AM/FM cassette player. The motor compartment is correct, intact, and beautifully detailed. The underside is representative of a well cared for, low mileage, undamaged car in good condition. The front compartment is in excellent condition with original cloth upholstery which is virtually flawless. Changes from original include the fitment of an MSD ignition system, a later radio, racing style seat belts, and standard size wheels. With this example comes: The original mm size wheels with tires, original ignition box, original seat belts, original radio, catalytic converter bypass pipes, an original 512 BBi sales brochure in mint condition, 512 BBi shop and spare parts manuals, the original book set, complete tool roll, space saver spare tire, and records for the current ownership period. When considered in light of the meteoric increases in Daytona values, the BBi is a comparative bargain, and as more people become privy to the remarkable Boxer experience, values are likely to increase in the near future, making this an investment that you can really enjoy.
