Description

1989 Ferrari Testarossa
VIN: ZFFSG17A9K0079214, engine no. F113 A040 15268
Black with Tan Leather Interior

Upon its introduction in late 1984, the Testarossa stunned the world with its avant garde styling. Long low and wide, theTestarossa appeared even more so thanks to the extensive use of horizontal slatting, a feature that would be replicated both on other Ferraris and on many other lesser cars. Yet beneath these striking features was a surprisingly organic and handsome form that remains as arresting today as it was thirty years ago. Motivated by a new four valve version of Ferrari`s horizontally opposed twelve cylinder engine that made 390hp, the car was quick and made a fantastic racket, but was also very plush with leather almost everywhere, including on the rear shelf, headliner, and visors. The trunk is reasonably sized and the car very comfortable and easy to drive, making it an ideal way to cover long distances at high speeds in comfort. Many Testarossa owners use them regularly and there are many owners with cars having covered over 125,000 miles, and even an example in the San Francisco area with over 200,000 miles!

This particular car was sold new in Texas, spent some time in Oklahoma, and then much of its life in Illinois. It has a clean carfax supporting the gradual accumulation of mileage to its current reading of 9100 miles from new. In December of 2013, the car received a major service (including timing belts), when the car had 8873 miles. The fuel lines were also replaced, and new front and rear deck lid struts fitted. The battery was replaced in February 2014. The car comes with tool roll with tools (in excellent condition), jack bag with jack, and light bulb holder. It also has an original leather books pouch with reprinted owner’s manual, and a shop manual. The car retains its original paint throughout, as verified with a paint thickness gauge.

The car is cosmetically excellent, with straight panels and very nice original paint. There are a few small marks on the front of the car from road use, and a few light scratches, but its overall presentation is very crisp, with an appearance consistent with a carefully stored and occasionally used low mileage 25 year old car. The trim is excellent, as are the glass and lights. The wheels are free from curb rash or other blemishes and the wheel caps, which often crack are new.

The interior is equally nice with excellent leather, which is extensively used to cover the seats, dashboard, door panels, headliner, and console. There is very light wear to the driver’s seat bolsters. The dashboard has very minimal shrinkage around the defroster vents only, and is excellent overall. The steering wheel, instruments, and switches are in excellent shape, as are the carpets which are protected by coco mats.

The engine compartment is in excellent original condition, being extremely clean and showing signs of recent maintenance. Aside from a Tubi exhaust, the car is unmodified. The front compartment is in excellent original condition. The latches and jambs are crisp and the original carpets are in great shape.

The car runs and drives very well. It starts easily and the engine has no anomalies in its operation. The Tubi exhaust sounds fantastic without being intrusive. The air conditioning blows cold. The gearbox shifts well, including second gear from cold. The clutch works well as do the brakes. The suspension and steering are tight and the car has reasonable compliance to the suspension. Although the car is dimensionally large, it feels much smaller when driving, and is a surprisingly civilized car that is still entertaining and would be well-suited to long trips at high speeds.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained, low-mileage, non-red Testarossa. Complete with tools, car cover, and jack, the car is current on service and is a pleasure to drive. It retains its original paint and is a collector caliber original car that is ready to drive or join a collection.
