1989 Morgan Plus 8
s/n 1S9AR02R4KS200237
Westminster Blue with Natural Leather
Since the 1930s, Morgan has been building sports cars for the true automotive enthusiast. Much of the design has remained constant, and the later Morgans, such as this Plus 8, bear many of the same lines which the captivated motoring world during the pre and post war periods.
In 1989, when this car was built, the Plus 8 was absolutely the most powerful car produced by Morgan. Fitted with rack and pinion steering and telescopic gas filled shocks on all four corners as standard equipment, the Plus 8 showed equal improvements in both power and cornering. All Plus 8s delivered to the US were fitted with a Rover-derived 215 c.i. V8 engine run on propane or Butane (LPG) delivering approximately 186.5 horse power to the rear wheels after being fed though the 5 speed transmission. With a top speed well over twice the national speed limit, and 0-60 acceleration just below 6.5 seconds, Motor Trend found the Plus 8 to be `A real kick in the knickers to drive.`
This particular car is a two owner example with 33,470 miles which was built for the US market and sold new in America. It was delivered in its current color combination of Westminster blue with natural Connolly leather, and was ordered with the badge bar, luggage rack, reclining seats, 2 door mirrors, air scoop, and full alloy body. It is fully EPA/DOT approved for all 50 states when imported by Bill Fink of Isis Imports Ltd. With the car comes a photo documentation of the build process, all documentation of the import and maintenance from new, and a Chassis Record card from Morgan cars. Also with the car are the soft top and frame, side curtains, and tonneau cover.
The exterior is in very good condition with no evidence of any damage or repairs. The original paint is in good condition, with just very minor patina appropriate for the cars age and use. There are no major cosmetic flaws in the form of chips or dents anywhere on the car. All the customary, US legal side market lights and bumpers are in place. Currently the car sits on beautiful Morgan Motor Company wheels with nearly new Michelin 205/60VR15 tires. The spare tire is also new.
The interior is in good `driver` condition with good original leather door panels, seats, console, and dash. The matching side windows, tonneau, and soft top are all in very good condition. The Nardi wood wheel is in excellent condition, and all the factory supplied Tudor gauges and switches are fully operational. The brown carpets are in good shape, with no signs of wear to speak of.
The engine compartment is extremely detailed to near show condition and should be enough to make any Morgan owner proud. The underside is clean and exceptionally dry. The current owner has recently fitted this example with a special dual exhaust setup.
The car drives beautifully and has a tight, robust feel. The power delivery is smooth and torque more than sufficient. In short, it is an easy to drive car with modern equipment but a vintage feel.
